Q: Hi Bill, I have the Briggs and Stratton 20418 power washer. Hose is 1/4. Can I go larger? If so with what impacts? I would like to get quick connects on both ends. Thanks Joel by Anonymous on November 29, 2011
A: Yes, you can go with a larger diameter hose for that machine. However, the largest I would recommend is a 5/16" diameter hose. By going with a larger diameter hose, you will lose 1 psi per foot of hose that you purchase. That amount of pressure would barely be noticeable though.
I am posting a link to a 5/16" diameter hose that has quick connect connections.
Q: can i run hot water into my cold water pump by Mike from Ohio on April 30, 2011
A: All "cold water" pressure washers can only accept water up to 104 F degrees. Any temperature of water that is warmer/hotter than that will absolutely damage the pump's seals and o rings, causing the pump to eventually stop producing pressure. Running "hot" water through a "cold" water pressure washer is the quickest way to damage a pump internally. by Bill, Product Expert
Q: Is there a detergent tank on this unit (model 20418)? And what is the water capacity? I was going to buy the detergent packs that dissolve in the tank and they are 1 pack per 1/4 gallon of water. by Todd from New York on April 20, 2011
A: No, this model does not have a detergent tank. There is a siphon hose for pulling detergent with this model. A similar unit that does have a detergent tank is the PowerBoss model 20453-BONUS. That PowerBoss model has a 1 gallon detergent tank onboard. by Bill, Product Expert
Q: Is there a "soap tank" per se? Or a line you run to a container?? by Roger from Massachusetts on April 07, 2011
A: Yes this model pressure washer has a detergent siphon hose that you can use to draw detergent through the wand. You will need to use the black detergent tip in order to do so. Also, like most pressure washers, you can only spray detergent at low pressure. by Bill, Product Expert
Q: I just purchased a home that has a rough sawn pine exterior. Would this until be appropriate to powerwash the home before staining? by James from New Jersey on April 05, 2011
A: Yes this pressure washer would work excellent for your application. Briggs & Stratton produces very durable and reliable machines. This model has just the right amount of pressure that you would need for cleaning that type of wood. by Bill, Product Expert
Q: I'm prepping my house for sale. Will the Briggs & Stratton Model 20418 be enough to clean the outside of a two story house? by William Sumner from North Carolina on March 27, 2011
A: Yes, this model pressure washer definitely has enough pressure to accomplish what you are trying to do. The recommended size pressure washer for your application is between 2600-3000 psi. Remember, you can only spray detergent at low pressure so you might have to use a ladder to reach the higher levels with detergent.
You can also purchase a high pressure soap shooter nozzle that allows you to increase the distance of your spray and allows you to spray detergent at high pressure. I posted a link to the soap shooter nozzle below:
Q: I have a Briggs & Stratton 2700 PSI (Gas-Cold Water) Pressure Washer. I would like to clean my wood fence but the fence is 150 ft + from my water source. Is it safe to connect 150 ft of water hose to the unit without damaging the pressure washer? If not, what are my options for getting a water source with adequate water pressure? by Tim Mariott from Texas on March 26, 2011
A: Your best option is to add additional high pressure hose versus added supply (garden) hose to the machine. I would not suggest more than 50' of garden hose, any distance longer can actually "starve" the pump of its needed amount of water.
You can use additional high pressure hose with very little to no adverse effects on the machine.
I posted a link below to a 50' hose that would work with your pressure washer:

Bill's Recommendation
This unit is our "Better" choice, because you're getting a lot of bang for your pressure washer buck.
The rugged frame supports a reliable 175cc Briggs & Stratton engine, with their ReadyStart® starting system. With this feature the engine doesn't require priming over and over; you just pull the cord to get things started.

Washer worked great
Received the pressure in a few days after order was placed on Nov 11,2011.
The assembly instructions were easy to follow. The pressure washer started with the first pull. The washer worked great. After removing the pressure hose the o-rings fell apart.
Before I can use the washer again, I have to order replacement hose o-rings.
PWD RESPONDS: The hose for that unit is supposed to have threaded high-pressure connectors; there isn't an o-ring kit listed in the parts breakout. Please contact the folks at Briggs & Stratton directly at (800) 743-4115 to make sure you get the correct item.

Good experience so far. Unit was delivered to my door in a timely manner. Simple to assemble with extremely clear instructions.
Started on second pull. Simply flip the switch to on and pull. No need to fiddle with choke as some models require.
Have used it one time to power wash a large deck. Performed as I expected. Ran for about three hours on a tank of gas. Not bad.
The hose reel is a nice accessory to stow the hose when not in use. I particularly like the 30 foot hose. It meant that I could leave the washer on ground level without lugging it up to the deck level. It has more plastic than the previous pressure washer, but its not meant for commercial use.
Besides plastic is lighter making the unit easier to maneuver. And the wheels are solid meaning there's no danger of a puncture or need to inflate. Keep in mind that Briggs & Stratton is assembled in the USA which means jobs for American workers.
Unlike the previous power washer I owned, if the carburetor goes south, you don't have to wait on a slow boat from China to bring a replacement part at an outlandish price. You probably wont find a better all around deal for the money.

First Pressure Washer
This is the first pressure washer I have ever owned. I did some research, read some others opinions, and felt the Briggs and Stratton 20418 fit the bill in terms of price, quality, and power in any order.
I was very pleased to have ordered it from Pressure Washers Direct on a Monday to have it arrive on a Wednesday! Thank You!
So far, I have been taking baby steps with it as I did not have any experience with using one of these machines before. Starting off with smaller jobs and working my way up to more difficult tasks.
Engine starts on first pull most times. I did have it stall once but that was likely due to a kinked garden hose attached to the pump which I was able to correct with no issues.
So far I am very pleased with this purchase.

We have a large back yard. Coming from CA where back yards are quite small we were actually overwhelmed with all that needed to be pressure washed in KY.
We bought an electric pressure washer, thinking this would be what we needed. Inasmuch as we had never seen, let alone used, a pressure washer we now realize that we were in for a big surprise- not pleasant. It took weeks to wash the driveway, back porch, plastic fence, deck around the pool, deck under the gazebo and all the back porch fencing.
When I realized that we needed to also pressure wash the fascia, soffits, furniture, screens, windows I threw in the towel. I then went on line to look for a good pressure washer. I found this site and was so pleased, I could call someone ask dumb questions and they didn't laugh, make fun of, instead were very helpful.
We settled on the Briggs & Stratton pressure washer and are we happy? You betcha! It is wonderful! Well, maybe not wonderful, work is after all work, however, it made all the difference in the world as far as time, energy etc. It is so easy, so well constructed and it started every time. Right out of the box it was a work horse.
We finished all of the above in less than 1 week, did a fantastic job we had mold on our fencing and it took it off w/o any soap. Great product.
If you are going to bother with pressure washing, for crying out loud, don't waste your time with the bad stuff, jump right into the Briggs and Stratton and get the job done!

Great buy
I recently bought this product for my husband as an early Fathers Day present. He is absolutely more than satisfied with it.
He is so proud to tell everyone how wonderful this pressure washer is. The initial overview and description given by the company themselves was great however they didn't give enough credit to themselves because it way surpassed all of that and some.
The features it provides are convenient. I didn't know anything about this type of product, however, the company is very helpful, informative, polite, and respectful.
They have much knowledge and enjoy helping their customers. Great job, Pressure Washers Direct. You well exceeded my expectations. I will buy from you again.
Did I mention great prices, too?

Ordered, shipped, received in 3 days! No complaints there!
Shipped in a slightly over sized box with the OEM box inside. Overall well packaged.
Once out of the box assembly time took about 5 minutes. Everything looks and feels to be of good quality. The only thing I don't care for is the gun. The high pressure hose is light weight but of good construction.
The motor started right up on first pull! Simply amazing! We shut it off several times and each time it restarted on the first pull. NICE! My wife loves it for that reason alone.
During use pressure was steady, motor was steady, and general use was easy enough. The trigger on the handle is just soft enough not to cause fatigue and feels well balanced.
PROS: Easy start, easily moved, good construction, constant pressure
CONS: Light weight spray gun .... mostly plastic; high Pressure fitting on pump is aluminum and it gave me a hard time when taking off the pressure hose. Looks as though it could be easily cross threaded. Small gas tank.
Aside from the couple of minor issues our first use is A++ The 2700 is plenty of pressure for most, if not all, your home uses. You could get away with a 2400 but for 10 bucks more you may as well go for the extra psi.
Highly recommend!!
