Q: ON ANY OF YOUR 3100 PSI AND WITH A Siphon Tube. IF I HUNG A 1 GAL BOTTLE OF SOAP ON THE HANDLE WILL IT WORK OR DOES THE BOTTLE NEED TO BE ON THE GROUND
by LEON GWIAZDOWSKI from New Jersey on June 03, 2015

A: You can put a bottle anywhere the siphon hose can reach. However, you can't add additional lengths of siphon hose to the unit. This will cause the unit to not be able to draw detergent.

Q: I'm retiring soon from the military and am in the beginning stages of researching pressure washing as a small business. I would be more than happy to receive any tips you may have on the subject. Thank you for providing a solid breakdown on the equipment you sell on this website. How would you compare the DR pressure washer with the prosumer models listed here?
by (Mr.) Ashley Holt from Virginia on May 03, 2014

A: I am not sure of the DR brand you are referring to. However, the Generac Prosumer model is a great choice. It uses a High Quality AR Triplex Plunger Pump with adjustable pressure. The AR pump is one of the best in the industry today. I would highly recommend the Generac brand.

Been a really good washer so far. I do wish I could get an electric start for it, as I'm an old man.

Fredric,
You may want to give the folks at Generac a call, toll free at 888-436-3722 and see if they have an electric-start kit available for their engine.

Aftermarket starter kits are also available, but please be aware that attaching one to your pressure washer might void your Factory Warranty.

Right out of the box, the fuel line from tank to carb was not connected and leaked out a tank of gas before it could be connected. Engine started on the first pull but no pressure from the pump.

20+ miles to the nearest Generac service dealer and was told it would be 2 - 3 weeks before they could troubleshoot the problem. Wish I had bought it at a Bog Box store with their 30 day return policy, could have gotten an immediate replacement or refund.

Roger,
I am so sorry your new pressure washer arrived with issues- I understand your frustration. We sell a lot of the larger Generac units and very few of them have problems. For the few that do, their national service network stands ready to help.

This is the busy season for pressure washer service, so you may want to call the shop every 4-to 5 days to check the status of your repair. If you're not happy with the Authorized Warranty Service you receive please don't hesitate to let us know- we will be happy to ask our Generac representative to step in and assist.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any disappointment.

Nice Sturdy Equipment
Hard to start at time if everything is not absolutely perfect. If you overfill the gas by a tiny bit - it gives you trouble when starting.

Uses more gas than my previous pressure washer but definitely has a lot of power.

Allison,
Please make sure you're letting the water run through your pressure washer to purge any air in the pump before you pull the recoil rope as described on page 9 of your Owner's Manual.

Since the pump and the engine are connected directly, air in the pump can cause vapor lock- making it very hard to get the engine to turn over. If you let the water run for a minute or two in between recoil rope pulls you should have an easier time starting your pressure washer.

If you have overfilled the gas tank, loosening the gas cap a bit when starting may help as well.

New Pressure Washer Wont Start !!
I got the Pressure Washer shipped to my office and all was good until I started to unpack it. It was missing a screw that helps hold on a plastic assembly for the hose. It looked like it was missing a cover on the pump assembly but later I found out it was not.

I put oil and gas in the unit, attached a water hose and tried to start it up. I followed the directions and pulled and pulled on the starter cord to no avail. It seemed like it was not getting any spark. I had a neighbor's friend... more

Duane,
I am so sorry you're having problems with your pressure washer! Each time before trying to start the engine it's a good idea to squeeze the trigger gun and let water run through the unit for a minute or two. This chases out the air in the pump (vapor lock) and lets the directly-connected engine turn over.

Sometimes if the box has been tipped in shipping there can be residual oil coating the air filter; preventing the engine from starting. Cleaning the oil off or putting in a fresh filter may help. I'm glad your friend checked to make sure there wasn't any oil in the spark plug.

These tips won't help if the on/off switch isn't working properly, but we try to help where we can. I used the Generac Service Locator for pressure washers in your zip code, and there are several within 20 miles of your zip code. You may want to call around first to see which one has the shortest turn-around time.

You will need to bring a copy of your invoice with you for Warranty repair. Just click on "My Account" in the upper right corner of our website and follow the prompts to print one out.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience!

Stepped Up
Stepped up to this more industrial type pump unit and glad I did. You will spend $200 more over consumer units but this is not just about the pump . The entire unit is better quality from the hoses and connections to the tires to the gauge of metal in the frame its well worth the extra money.

I go to it not wondering if it will start or work that day, only how much I wanna clean!

Love it and Pressure Washers Direct!

Not As Expected
First time PW purchase. I debated, researched, surfed at several websites, read, planned and shopped in big box stores for 6 months before I bought the Generac 6590. I read every review that I could on very many makes and models of PW's. And, watched many videos. I copied feature lists from supplier and manufacturer websites in addition to key comments and tips from customer reviews. I pasted such info into word pad documents and accumulated comparison notes into spreadsheets.

Brand Rep
Mike,
Thank you for providing us with your review of the 3100 PSI professional grade pressure washer. We are sorry to learn of the pressure-related issues that you have been experiencing with your unit. It sounds like you may be having issues with the water supply provided to the unit. Considering this, we would recommend verifying that the unit is being provided a supply that can handle at least 3.8 gallons per minute, no less than 30 psi, and does not exceed 100F. Please note that the pressure provided from the unit will also be limited if the unit's water inlet is blocked, the inlet hose screen is clogged, the high pressure hose is leaking, or the connected nozzle is obstructed in any way. If you are able to confirm that all of these potential causes do not apply to your personal unit, we would then recommend contacting an independent authorized service provider in your local area for any required diagnostic work, as our professional grade pressure washers should be able to provide enough power for the cleaning tasks to which you have alluded when the appropriate nozzle is utilized. To locate the independent authorized service provider closest to you, please use your postal code for searching purposes via the following link: http://www.generac.com/dealer-locator?cid=frm-105-ab .

Also, in regards to your current and intended use of the unit, please note that holding the nozzle 1" from your desired surface is not recommended; the spray gun should be held at a safe distance when using different pressure nozzles for various cleaning tasks. This is recommended to avoid damaging the surface to which water pressure is applied. Additionally, we would not recommend ever starting or operating a pressure washer indoors. Even if windows and/or doors are open, indoor operation can lead to overheating issues and a build up of carbon monoxide, which can be deadly. As for your desire to connect a 100' hose to a 35' hose, please note that your unit's owner's manual explicitly states that any connected hose should not exceed 50' in length, as longer hoses would limit the unit's pressure output. If you are interested in referring to your owner's manual, but do not currently possess an applicable copy, please know that you can obtain this documentation online by using the product's model or serial number for searching purposes via the following link: http://www.generac.com/service-support/product-support-lookup?cid=frm-105-ac .

Again, we do apologize for this unfortunate experience. If you would like to discuss your unit's issues with us in further detail, or if you would like to inquire about the process for having your unit serviced, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722).

Need A Better Gas Cap
I have used my new 3100 pressure washer 3 or 4 times since new and it is very powerful and very well built.

The problem I am having is the gas cap is not venting properly and in order to run the unit more than about 20 minutes, you have to unscrew or completely remove the cap... not good.

A very good pressure washer reduced to junk because of improper fuel tank venting; would not buy again.

Purchased in April. Couldn't believe how fast it arrived. Easy to put together. Finally am using it this weekend. Powerful machine but continually stops running on me like it's out of gas. Check the gas and starts right up but will quit again over and over.

Gas cap issues?? I don't know. I guess I will call Generac on Monday 6/30/14

Heavy Duty Unit
This model is very heavy duty from the frame, engine, and pump, to the hose and gun.

For its first use I ran it for around 3 hours to clean the upstairs back of my house and the underneath of my deck from the patio below. Things were very dirty from 2-3 years of no washing. We live in a wooded area with mud wasps, bee hives, birds nests, spider webs, and caked on dirt on the window casings. The pressure treated wood was all gray.

Window casings, bricks, concrete floor, and the pressure... more

Very Disappointing
New out of the box and it won't start! Checked the spark plug - no spark, so I went and purchased a new plug and still no spark. Nearest authorized service center is an hours drive so I spent the afternoon I should have been power washing taking it to the authorized service facility. Who knows when I get it back. No way the manufacturer tested this or did any serious quality inspection. Serves me right for trying to buy American made.

Engine Quits
Ditto review from Sam in New Baltimore MI. Great unit when running, but quit 3 times first day I used it. Called Generac and was told by cust service they never heard of this. Had them go into your reviews to validate issue. Mine is in shop now. They couldn't (?) transfer me to anyone in tech support or warranty admin, said only a dealer can do that, (?) Right now I wish I hadn't bought it. We'll see what happens.

Richard,
I'm sorry to hear you're having a problem keeping the engine running- I hope you were able to solve the problem the way Sam did by unscrewing the cap enough to let the vapors out?

Generac Tech Support number is 888-436-3722, toll free and accessible to anyone. If you have a problem getting Factory Warranty Service, wherever you bought the unit can ask their sales rep at Generac to step in; they would be the ones to help sort things out with warranty admin.

I'm sorry Generac's customer service rep wasn't aware of the gas cap issue - they are a really large company handling a wide range of power tools, and the information may not have worked all the way through the food chain yet.
