  10 Questions
Q: Is there a comparable model that you would recommend over this model?
by Keith Shannon from Maryland on May 26, 2015

A: The unit that is equal in quality, is the Karcher unit model G3050OHC. Karcher makes the pump on the unit and it is one of the best consumer grade units in the industry today. I have attached a link to view that item.

Q: Is there an extension hose available for this model? What hose would you suggest if I go with a
longer hose instead of the extension hose?

by Steve Lohman from Missouri on April 24, 2015

A: If you need to go with a longer high pressure hose, I would recommend jumping up to a 5/16" diameter hose and using it as a replacement. To extend the length, you would want a stronger more durable hose like the 5/16" hoses. I have attached a link for you to view a 50FT high pressure hose I would recommend for this unit.

Q: What is a flywheel brake and what is the purpose of it? does the generac have this brake and the Honda ? I had a Honda washer with a brake on it and I had a lot of different problems with it so im very cautions of buying another
by John T from Florida on September 13, 2014

A: No, this unit does not have a flywheel brake on it. The purpose of that is to control the engine speed. This unit is a great choice for homeowner use. I highly recommend this unit. The pump on the unit is made from AR, and is one of the best axial cam pumps in the industry today.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: I have a 3100psi Generac model 60242 I purchased from PED. Works great. I have noticed lately that when I tilt the unit back in order to reposition it, it will suddenly quit. Is this the "Oil Alert System" sensing a drop in oil level and shutting down the engine? The unit restarts after a couple of pulls.
by Dave from North Carolina on June 05, 2014

A: It could be the Oil Alert sensor, or an adjustment needed in the carburetor... The good news is this unit comes with a 2 year Factory Warranty from the folks at Generac.

You can use their Service Center Locator to find your local Authorized Repair facilities, or give them a call at (888) 436-3722 x5381.

Please be sure to have the serial number of your pressure washer handy if you call Generac; they usually ask for it. You will need a copy of your invoice for any warranty work- just click on My Account in the upper right corner of our website and follow the prompts to print one out.

If there are several repair locations in your area you may want to call around to see which one has the shortest turn-around time so you get your pressure washer back as quickly as possible.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Hi...I see the site sells extended warranties. Who covers these, and what's covered. Also, is it worth it to go beyond the two year Generac offers.
by Brian Warehime from New York on May 29, 2014

A: The Extended warranty is covered by WarrenTech. They will start the day after the manufacture warranty and cover all non wearable items. Things that would not be covered would be items like the hose, gun, wand. They would have you take it to a local service center. I feel the Generac Warranty is great. However, if you would like extra time after that it is available for purchase.

Q: I am looking for recommendation on accessories needed for the Generac 6598 to easily clean siding and gutters on a large 2 story house.
Thanks.

by Jared from Florida on May 08, 2014

A: I definitely recommend a telescoping wand and gutter cleaner attachment for your application. If you would like to spray detergent through the telescoping wand you will need to go with an aluminum one. I have included link to the telescoping wand, gutter cleaner, adapter needed to attach to your high pressure hose, and the detergent I recommend.

Q: Will the Generac 6598 connect to a foam cannon like the MTM Hydro without needing any additional hardware?
by Doug from Rhode Island on April 15, 2014

A: Yes, you can purchase the MTM foamer model 14.0263. This has a fitting on it so that it quick connects into where your colored spray tips usually go, so no additional hardware is needed. I love this foamer!

Q: What is the pump made out of?
by Zach from Minnesota on April 14, 2014

A: This unit has an AR axial cam pump with a brass head on it. It is a step above the rest in it's category. The brass head dissipates heat more effectively, therefore increasing the life of the pump.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Is there a telescoping spray wand available for the
Generac Model 6598?

by Carmen Fontana from Delaware on April 13, 2014

A: Yes, if you would like to be able to dispense detergent I recommend the 24' Aluminum Telescoping Wand. I have also included the adapter you will need to connect this product to your high pressure hose.

by Brian, Product Expert

Q: If you go to Lowes, they still carry the model 6024. You show that model as being disconntinued. The 6598 seems to match up with the 6024, spec for spec. Is there any difference? Why wouldn't Lowes carry the 6598?
by Mark from Connecticut on March 19, 2014

A: The 6024 is the old model number. The new model number is the 6598. It has all the same components as the 6024, just different colors to make it more appealing.

Great Washer... Easy To Use
This machine is easy to use and does a fantastic job, I am a 70 year old female and wanted something that I could use to clean a concrete patio, driveway, wood decks, and gutters.

This is the first Pressure Washer that I have ever owned , and second time I have ever used one. Took it out of shipping box, read the manual, put the quick connections on, attached the turbo nozzle to wand, connected water hose and pressure hose, put in the gas and oil. It started immediately, only stops when I... more

The Goods & Not So Goods
The power washer unit itself is fantastic, love the design, how it moves and holds the gun. That part is a 10.

About 3 hours into the first use the hose blew a bb sized hole about 2 feet away from where it connects to the unit. Our day was done. I called Pressure Washers Direct customer service line and they were closed. It was Good Friday, so I understood. I emailed them with the issue as a follow up.

We went to Home Depot the following day to get a replacement hose which added another... more

Rick,
I'm sorry you had problems with your hose- it took me a while to find your order since you used a different email address on your review.

I would suggest calling Generac again to ask about the replacement shipment. They may have placed a hold on the hose to wait for the pictures of the nozzle, and then not gotten back to activate the shipment request.

Great Machine / One Small Problem
Trigger handle on the wand sometimes stays stuck on.... twice already it jets off as soon as I start the motor.
I have had to shut off the motor and jiggle the handle. We all know that shouldn't have to be necessary.

Zero Issues
I was a little disappointed with the cheap feel of the handle at first impressions. It's just a plastic handle as opposed to a solid piece of steel with plastic piece snapped over it but looking at the available pictures from this site again shows that I should have realized that. Also there is some play once the the 2-piece handle is assembled which, of course, has ZERO affect with the operation of the machine but it was just another thing that doesn't give the user that "this is a solid... more

Michael,
Using steel in the handle would feel sturdier; but it would also be heavier- and that can really take it's toll if you're working on a large project like cleaning a deck or house.

Using modern materials is easier on your arms, and your budget.

New Pw Owner
Have only used PW a few times so far but will use it more throughout the year.

Two major complaints.
One, the recoil cord used to start engine is very difficult to use. As a female user, I am unable to start it myself. Cord needs to be shorter to activate engine and start with less effort.

Two, the cord connecting the power wand to the unit leaves permanent black marks on any surface it contacts while using the washer. In future will place waterproof tarp under cord when using... more

Ann,
A good tip for starting direct-drive pressure washers like this one is kind of hidden on Page 13 of the Owner's Manual. It tells you to squeeze the spray gun trigger and let water run through the unit for a minute or two BEFORE you try to pull-start the engine.

This pushes all the air out of the pump (preventing "vapor lock") and allows the engine to turn over easier. You should do this every time before you yank on the pull starter. If the air is jammed in the pump it won't allow the engine to turn over because they are directly connected.

We appreciate your business, and I hope I was able to help.

Great Even Without A Muffler!
Five star on all aspects until... the muffler "fell f*^ing OFF" to paraphrase commedian Ron White's Sears tire experience! It was during the 3rd. hour of use that the weld between the exhaust flange & the header pipe "broke".

Examining the weld clearly showed a 360 degree bead all the way around... but it did not "penetrate into" the exhaust flange for a full ⅔ of the circumference. My direct call to Generac met with success as they shipped out... more

Stalling Out
I have only used it 2 times but having trouble with it stalling out in use. Can you give me any guidance on this problem?
Rob Recommends This Generac Product
Brian, the Pressure Washer Expert
Product Expert
Rob,
As long as you're using fresh gasoline (gas that's been sitting around for a couple months sometimes doesn't burn very well) the only thing I can think of besides the Troubleshooting Guide on page 21 of your Owner's Manual is to loosen the gas cap a bit if it stalls. Sometimes a casting flaw or piece of packing material will block the gas cap vent, creating a vacuum as gas is used that starves the carb, causing it to stall.

If that does the trick you can call Generac at 888-436-3722 and ask them to send you a replacement gas cap since your unit is under warranty. Even if that doesn't do the trick, you can still ask them for additional troubleshooting advice. They can also provide the closest warranty repair locations to your zip code. (If there's more than one location, call around to see who has the shortest turn-around time!)

Please be sure to have the pressure washer's serial number handy when you call Generac. If you need a copy of your invoice to establish your warranty just click on My Account in the upper right corner of our website and follow the prompts to print one out.

So Disappointed!!
Just my second time using this pressure washer and the hose developed a hole. I'm not sure how this could happen I was simply cleaning my drive and approximately 20 minutes I looked back and saw watering spraying out of the back.

But times I've used this it's started up on the second pull, and seem to be doing a great job. That said, I'm so disappointed, I'll have to purchase a new hose unless this is under warranty?

Product Expert
Victor,
Most manufacturers will cover items like hoses for materials and workmanship for 30 days after delivery, which would take you to 4/18/16. However you may want to call the folks at Generac, toll free, at 888-436-3722 and explain that it was the second time the hose was used- they may choose to cover it under warranty.

Please have the serial number of your pressure washer handy when you call Generac, they will ask for it. If you need a copy of your invoice just click on My Account in the top right corner of our website, then follow the prompts to print one out.

As you use your pressure washer you will need to watch behind you as well as before you. Getting a kink in a hose at 3100 PSI will cause a leak very quickly, as well as letting it touch the hot muffler of the engine. Your hose will also last longer if you pick the hose up and move it instead of dragging it over rough surfaces like pavement or gravel.

Love It
Works great. Has lots of pressure.

The soap thing is a little confusing though - Home Depot has ZAP cleaner for about $8 and is blue but says for "downstream" of pump. I called Pressure Washers Direct and they said the soap goes "through" the pump but the axial pump connection for the soap is on the high pressure output orifice - so that's confusing.

I can't find local supplier of "through the pump" soap. I may call Generac to see what they say about... more

Sidney,
Most consumer grade, and many pro-grade pressure washers will run the detergent/water mix through the pump. You can tell if this applies to your machine if you have to use the black tip to open the siphon tube for detergent.

You need to use a detergent labeled 'pressure washer safe' with these machines because they don't contain any caustic chemicals (like bleach, ZAP, TSP, etc) that will damage the seals or components in your pump. They will also be thin enough that the siphon can pick them up, while maintaining the correct ratio of soap to water (about 1:10).

We sell a variety of pressure washer-safe soaps, and you can usually find them at local places that sell pressure washers, like Sears.

Please read the instructions for any pressure washer-safe soap you purchase- some need to be diluted before use, and some recommend watering your landscaping with plain water before use.

If you want to use a more caustic chemical, you may want to check out a foamer. These go on your spray wand, and allow you to introduce a chemical "downstream" or after the pump. They work well for the cleaners/chemicals that would otherwise damage your pump (and void your pressure washer warranty).

Fine Product At A Fine Price
Purchased this power washer to clean an old wood garage and an old aluminum siding house for preparation to paint.

Just finished preparing the garage. Power washer did a great job of taking off the loose paint using the cleaning tip, followed by spraying on the cleaning solution using the soap tip, and taking it off with the sash tip.

Powerwasher is also handy for washing the cars.

Assembly was straightforward with no problems. Getting oil into the engine is a little awkward, but not... more
