Q: Haw many gpm are needed to make this scrubber work?
by Amilkar Martinez from Florida on January 08, 2014

A: We recommend at least 3 GPM to have this surface cleaner perform to the best of it's ability. If you do not provide it with enough GPM it will cause streaking and will not allow the swivel to spin at the proper RPM.

Q: Bill, is there an adapter to connect this hammerhead to my 2500psi unit, i see the connector is presure fit and my unit has the screw connector. I hope I explained that well enough.

Greg

by Greg Peterson from Ohio on October 16, 2011

A: This surface cleaner does come with a quick connect fitting. In order for your threaded hose to be compatible, you will have to purchase adapter part # AL457.

I am posting a link to the product below:

Q: How well does this work on interlocking concrete pavers with sand in-between? There is moss growing in the joints and the pavers have mold growing.
by Mark from New York on August 07, 2011

A: This surface cleaner would work great for that application. However, you will definitely have to use at least a 2600-3000psi machine or larger in order to get great results. Also, just be aware that more than likely some of the sand in between the joints will be blown out. As far as removing the mold off the pavers, you should be satisfied with the performance of this product.

Q: where do i put the grease into?.....no zerk fitting
by John from Washington on July 28, 2011

A: Some versions of this surface cleaner do not need to be greased. The newer version of this product does NOT use a zerk fitting and does not require grease. The older models will have a grease point around the rotating head assembly. If you do not see a grease point (zerk fitting), then more than likely you have the newer version and it does not need to be greased

Q: Would it be safe to use a 4200 PSI pressure washer with this surface cleaner? Or would you recommended just turning down the pressure?
by Jeff from Texas on March 30, 2011

A: Yes you can definitely use a 4200 psi pressure washer with this surface cleaner. You might want to dial down the pressure just a little bit but it really isnt needed. However, the only way you can push the full 4200 psi is by using a zero degree spray tip. Normal operating pressure of a 4200 psi model is going to be 4000 psi. The additional 200 psi is only obtained by constricting the water through the hose and spray tip that I mentioned.

Q: Have a Karcher residential G3050 gas presure washer. Will the GP Hammerhead Surface Gleaner work with this machine? Would purchase include necessary hoses/wands/etc. to couple the G3050 or are these a separate purchase? If separate, what is required?

Thanks
Tom J

by Tom from Washington on March 28, 2011

A: Yes this surface cleaner would definitely work with your model pressure washer. This surface cleaner comes with all components shown in the picture and would connect directly up to your existing pressure washer hose. In your situation, since your existing hose should be threaded, you would also need to purchase an adapter model D10089.

I posted a link below to the adapter:

Works Well, Poorly Constructed
I've had this unit for 2 years and it has done an acceptable job of cleaning my stone patio for two seasons. This year, I hooked it up and NOTHING. I took it apart and it seems that the two "jets" that spin at the end of the water arm are both rusted solid. I removed them and they have been soakiing in liquid wrench for a day or so but so far NOTHING, they are still completely clogged.

Probably will need to order a new pair of jets. Of couse this happens on a weekend and... more

Manufacturer Response
Brand Rep
Gary,
Hi Gary - I am sorry that you experienced an issue with rust build up, as the swivel arm is made with a seamless steel tubing. If the fluid path is not blown out with air, or at least the handle held in a vertical position with the gun locked open, to completely try to drain the water along the fluid path then over time there will build up rust that will create scaling. The end result will be nozzles getting plugged. The better suggestion is when you cycle antifreeze through your pressure washer at the end of the season, also do the same through the flat surface cleaner as this is a mild rust inhibitor which helps when you flush out the flat surface cleaner. If you provide an address we will send out a new rotary arm to try with the above suggestion - just remember when tightening on the nozzles to put the nozzle directional line in line with the tube length when finally tightened. Thanks, Jerry G

General Pump Was Helpful
earlier this month, I had a problem with my surface cleaner and posted an unhappy review. the jets had clogged and I was unable to clear them. General Pump responded to my review and after trying some of their suggestions unsucessfully (including soaking the jets in Coke), sent me a new rotator arm assembly, including new jets. They also suggest that the surface cleaner be stored with the handle up and the gun open to allow all water to drain. Unit is up and running and patio is clean.
Pros: Easy To Use
Cons: Leaves Streaks Unless Moved Very Slowly

Did Not Last
I bought this summer 2012, used it to clean a large driveway and patio area, and it worked very well.

I went to use it this season, and the nozzles would not spin. Bought a snap ring remover to take the assembly apart, found 3 of the small snap rings rusted and broken apart in several pieces jamming the assembly. I thought I could just replace those, but one of the 15/42 bearing assemblies is also all rusted and I can not get it apart, so I had to spend $70 to order a repair kit.

I do... more

Leon,
We are sorry for the inconvenience. Rust can happen when tools are put away wet, or stored where it's humid or damp- we appreciate your letting potential customers know that they will need to drain the unit and let it dry before storing it.

Check & Grease The Bearings
I already own one and found that without the grease fitting the bearings will fail and it's expensive to replace. You have to take the snap ring off the bottom of the head and clean and grease this once in a while.

I didn't see anything about this anywhere. Found out the hard way.

Needs A Grease Fitting
Purchased Two of These Units - One Lasted 3 Years Used Daily; This Unit Had a Grease Fitting At the Swivel.

the Second Units Lasted 13 Months. the Bearing Became Noisy and Then the Swivel Bar Stopped Spinning. I Feel That It Is a Mistake Not to Have a Grease Fitting On These Units.

I Talked to General Pump and My Feeling Is That They Are Not Going to Install Grease Fittings On These Units If Using On a Daily Basis, Would Not Recommend This Unit.

Again, Happy With the... more

China Ripoff
The company that mass produces this product and allows consumers to purchase it should be sued! I am a licensed general contractor. Last week I made the mistake of purchasing the General Pump 20 inch surface cleaner. I was in the middle of a week long pressure washing job and decided to make the big purchase.

It worked great for the first day. The second day was different! It would no longer spin. Took it back! (All of this is a waste of time.) Thought maybe it was a bad apple, so I bought... more

Charles,
It might be more effective to tell General Pump about your experience, so they can recommend the right product and procedure for your application. They can be reached, toll free, at (888) 474-5487.

Professional grade equipment should be used for professional applications. Prosumer grade equipment is best suited for homeowners who want better quality components, and professionals for occasional or light duty use.

Surface cleaners should float over the surface being cleaned. If you push down on the unit you run the risk of jamming the nozzles with grit or debris, or overheating the swivel. You can clear a nozzle with a thin wire or paperclip. Some swivels can be rebuilt, but they are usually found on Professional grade units.

This unit has a 90 day Factory Warranty through General Pump that covers defect in materials & workmanship, but will not cover mis-use or abuse.

Don't Blame Us
This product is junk!!. How dare you sell it and tell us to basically complain to the manufacturer! ! YOU'RE selling this junk. I purchase this as an additional cleaner. And as others have mentioned, it worked fine and then broke. No...it was not put away wet..nor in a humid shed! Because of your response I will not purchase from you again. And I will tell others until you stand behind what you sell.
Pros: Price
Cons: Low Quality, Unreliable, Durability

2 And A Half Years Later
Purchased 2/24/11. Over the past 2 and a half years of using the surface cleaner I have cleaned....my driveway/sidewalk/deck 4 times, my neighbor's driveway twice, my parent's large driveway 3 times, and the elementary school sidewalks, main entry, and play area (takes about 3 days) 3 times.

I have had no problems. It works today just like it did the first time I used it.

Good Company
I bought one in November 2012 and it worked great out of the box. Problems start when you don't use it for a month or so. If any water dried in the unit then it will rust or cause the unit not to spin and/or spray.

You have to squeeze the handle and blow out the water with an air hose to dry it properly. I had a no-spin problem and contacted the manufacturer direct through email in September 2013 and even though it was out of warranty, they still sent me a new bearing assembly with a grease... more

Michael,
The products we sell are made and warranted by the manufacturers, so they are the ones to set the warranty terms and provide service.

If there is something we can do to help we are happy to do it as long as it's within the terms of our contract with the manufacturer.

We only carry products that have good warranties and service networks to protect our customer's investment. There are less expensive units out there, but we won't carry anything by a no-name, no-service import company.

Faster Than A Turbo Nozzle But Clogged Nozzles Out Of The Box
I spent a hour cleaning the nozzles right out of the box. I would have thought this cleaner would be tested when assembled.

I have spent a total of 3 hours pressure washing so far and it is much faster that the turbo nozzle. The arms do spin very fast, so the surface must be level and free of debris.

I believe it is a good cleaner for the price.

How Can You Not Use This ...
Just picked up my Surface Cleaner and I couldn't believe how easy it was to handle. I am using the PowerBoss 3800 4.0GPM and love that Powerwasher!

Yes it could have wheels on it to make it a lil' easier to move, but the faster you move the more streaking you'll find.

It took 20 minutes to do a decent size driveway, sidewalk, and path to the front door. I l let my 16 yr old use it and they didn't want to give it back...
