  7 Questions
Q: Other than appearance, what is the difference between the K5.68 and the K5Premium?
by Clark from New York on July 13, 2016

A: The body style and the detergent tank are the main features that this unit does not have. The guts are the same. However, this unit supplies a 1 year warranty and the K5 Premium supply's a 2 year warranty.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Hi Mike,
How do I

Hi Mike,
How does the electrical cjord wind to the pressure washer.

by Blair from Hawaii on July 05, 2016

A: There is not a spot on the pressure washer to wind the power cord. The power cord comes out of the back of the pressure washer.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: during winter -will this be damaged in any way I am talking about model k5.68. Is this a good choice for cedar siding and concrete and pavers?
by Bill from New Jersey on June 02, 2011

A: During the winter you would want to take this inside. The problem you can have is the pumps and other pieces on the machine freeze up and the washer would not work.

This would work fine on your pavers and the siding.

Thanks,

Q: What kind of detergent or other liquids such as ArmorAll be used in the Karcher model K5.68 pressure washer?
by DARYL HAMMOND from Ohio on April 30, 2011

A: I would only recommend detergents that are labeled as being "pressure washer safe". There are many different types and brands available. Any other type of chemical that is used in this machine could absolutely dry out the seals and o rings and cause the pump to leak or stop producing pressure.

Unfortunately we do not carry any type of ArmorAll chemical that is considered "pressure washer safe". I am posting a link below to all of the detergents we carry:

Q: Do you have any self priming pressure washers for sale (gas or electric) ? I have wood deck on my 1/2 acre pond to clean & would like to be able to use the pond water. Thankyou.
by John from Ohio on March 25, 2011

A: Yes, all Karcher branded pressure washers both the gas and electric versions have self priming pumps that can pull water from a standing source such as a tank or pond. We also sell Kranzle and DirtKiller brand pressure washers which too have self priming pumps. Kranzle and DirtKiller only offer professional grade pressure washers while Karcher offers residential and prosumer grade models.

I would definitely recommend that you use a filter on the end of the hose that is placed in the pond to prevent debris from entering the pump. Karcher makes a hose with filter for this purpose that we sell as an accessory.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: What happens when you use hot water in a Karcher electric power washer? I never knew they were (Electric-Cold Water) listed.
by Bob Mills from Michigan on March 25, 2011

A: Karcher's cold water pressure washers can accept water up to 104F degrees. This is common with all cold water pressure washers. Using water hotter than 104F degrees in a cold water pressure washer will definitely damage and wear away the seals in the pump, causing the pump to fail. This is the fastest way to damage a pump that is rated for "cold water".
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Just bought the Karcher 3.74 from you guys. What is the "Pump Guard" which is recommended for storing and protecting the pump? And how do I use such?
by Preben Jensen from California on March 24, 2011

A: The Karcher pump guard is a chemical that is designed to extend the life of the pump and the seals within. Pump guard or pump saver as it is also called, will lubricate the seals in the pump and also prevent any water that is left inside the pump from freezing during the colder months.

To use this product, you simply attach it to your garden hose water inlet fitting and turn the machine on for a few seconds. Once the chemical exits the outlet high pressure fitting, the pump is protected.

You should defintely run this chemical through the pump every time you are going to store your pressure washer away for extended periods of time such as over 30 days. You should also run this chemical through the pump periodically throughout the year to keep the seals moist.

No More Gas Power Washers
I have had a 1700 PSI Karcher Washer for about 10 years. It still works. I wanted more powerful one to clean my house, driveway, and patio. WOW, it did the job. Thanks to Karcher Electric Power washers. They are very dependable and maintain.

I had 2 gas power washers that had to be scrapped after several years of use.

Don't Buy From Pressure Washers Direct
I purchased a karcher k5 preminum as recommended by their expert. Not much better than my garden hose. I called about returning it and purchasing a more powerful unit. They said sorry it's used and can't be returned. Should of purchased local as a big box store would of given me my money back.

BUY LOCAL . Don't get screwed and lose all your money like I did.

Terry,
I respectfully disagree with the assertions in your review. According to our records, when you called and said your pressure washer wasn't functioning properly we followed the rules set by Karcher and referred you to their Rapid Exchange Program. Having your pressure washer replaced by Karcher seemed to be a better solution for you than our Return Policy.

The link for our Return Policy appears at the bottom of every page of our website. It part, it says "Opened Merchandise- "Opened" products and accessories can be returned within 30 days of delivery*, but will be subject to a 25% restocking fee to cover testing, cleaning and repackaging expenses. Simply return the item to us, shipping prepaid & using the most convenient shipping method available to you. Some products include free shipping, so if you return one of these products our actual outbound shipping costs will be deducted from your return refund. Opened returns must be in salable condition with original materials and packaging."

When you called back and said that "Karcher didn't carry the K5 models" and couldn't help you (odd, since Karcher's website plainly shows the K5 Premium) we arranged for a refund for you anyway.

I believe we've done everything we can to help you, and more. We take pride in the quality products we sell and the customer service we offer. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

Am extremely disappointed -- machine leaks even after you sent me a replacement garden hose attachment! There i nothing wrong with my rubber hose. I is used to attach to my sprinkler AND NO LEAK. It is also attached to other garden sprayers and NO LEAK!. I'm beside myself with your plastic junk.

Am not hsappy!

Gerrude,
Your file shows we sent a brand-new replacement unit to you at no charge that was left at your front door on 7/21. Is wasn't just the garden hose attachment. If you didn't receive the unit please contact us right away at 1 (866) 618-9274 so we can ask FedEX to find out where it went.

Your garden hose may just need a new gasket (about 25-cents at any hardware or grocery store) to make a tight seal. The gasket fits inside the garden hose connector, and gets crushed after a period of use so it doesn't seal well. Your sprinklers may not put enough pressure on the gasket to cause it to leak, but the pressure washer back-pressure may be enough to disrupt the seal.

The pressure washer itself is covered under Karcher's Rapid Exchange program. You can contact them directly at (800) 537-4129. Please be sure to have the pressure washer's serial number handy if you call them, they will ask for it.

Gerrude,
For the two piece garden hose quick connector, please check that the small black part of the quick connector is threaded onto the pressure washer and the larger yellow part is threaded onto your garden hose. If these are reversed, it could cause a leak. Thanks in advance!

Only Worked One Time.
I had great success with it when I first bought it last year. I cleaned the deck around our pool then at the end of summer, I tried to use it again and it would not start.

I tucked it away for the Winter and now I am trying again. It simply will not start. It's not humming as though it were the capacitor. It's not leaking and the cord is fine and the GFCI is working properly.

I checked the website and it offers only the dumbest answers.

Owen,
There are Troubleshooting Tips starting on page 16 of the Owner's Manual that might help. If you don't have your copy you can download one under the Specs tab on our web page..

This unit has a 1 year Factory Warranty through the folks at Karcher. I didn't see where you bought the unit from us, so I'm sorry, I can't tell if it's still covered.

You may want to give Karcher a call at (800) 537-4129 to see if it's still eligible for the Rapid Exchange Program. Please have the serial number of your unit handy when you call them- they will ask for it.

Serge,
Under the Specs tab on our web page, and on pages 4 and 5 of the Owner's Manual it says this unit requires a 13 amp circuit that is grounded in order to operate properly. If you're in an older building it may need to be on a circuit that doesn't have anything else plugged into it.

Since you tried plugging it into another circuit as well and still had a problem you may want to call the folks at Karcher at (800) 537-4129. This unit is covered for 1 year under their Rapid Exchange Program so they'll send you a replacement if it's covered.

Please have the serial number of your pressure washer handy when you call Karcher; they will need it to set up your claim.

Serge,
You could plug it into the kitchen outlet and do not connect the water but turn it on for 5 to 10 seconds to see if the problem follows the pressure washer. The kitchen usually has larger breakers for the toaster and coffee pot. Also, make sure you are not using an extension cord as they can reduce the power getting to the machine and pop the circuit breaker, too.

Howard,
I am so sorry the wheels on your pressure washer aren't working properly! Please make sure the wheel assemblies have been pushed in far enough that you heard a 'click' as shown on Page 6 of the Owner's Manual.

If the wheels have clicked into place but still don't turn properly, please give the folks at Karcher a call, toll free, at (800) 537-4129 so they can send you a new set of wheels. Please also have the serial number of your unit handy when you call Karcher; they will ask for it.

Very Disappointed
I am very disappointed- it is cheap plastic. The wheel fell off, the wand holder & cord holder broke, and it falls over when pulling hose out from the reel. The pressure Hose near the wand is ready to split.

I have owned Karcher products in the past and they were very well made & made to last. I thought the unit was made in Germany- not so, it's made in China. I will not waste my money on another one.

I have not used the unit a lot, I expected it to last longer. It's only a year... more

Bad Pressure Washer
I purchased this from this company and at first I loved it. It was powerful, quiet, and worked extremely well. One day it started leaking from the bottom and it would no longer pump water. Keep in mind that I don't use this that often at all.

I took it apart and there is a leak in a pump seal near where it connects to the hose. I called the only company in my city who fixes such things, they said that Karcher was the cheapest and least reliable company on the market and they could make... more

3rd Such Power Washer
All 3 malfunctioned less than 3 months after purchase. Call me a sucker! The last, has been under warranty repair since Sept 7 2013. Several parts were back ordered and one is still on back order (2 months to date).

The unit had some good qualities but overall I would recommend that you shop elsewhere for a unit for personal use.
Pros: Easy To Use, Quiet, Easy To Store

Karcher K5.68 Needs An Ac Cord Holder
We not only live in the woods with moss growing on our brick porch, but we also have an in the ground swimming pool. The Karcher is everything that I hoped for and more. It does a great job.

BUT, what are we supposed to do with the AC cord? Your instructions talk about the handy hose reel, but the pictures don't even show that there is an AC cord. When we wind it up and hang it over the handle either the cord falls off or it get stuck under the wheels.

For an around the house power washer it kicks butt. I have only had it for a year, and used it a few times, but the performance is great.

I am a little skeptical about the longevity of some of the hose connections, but time will tell. I think I made a wise purchase.

Adding a garden hose quick connect set will help reduce wear & tear on the garden hose connection. You can usually find them at any hardware store for around $5 for plastic, under $10 for brass.
