Q: What is better, direct drive or belt drive and why?

A: Belt driven machines are considered better because there is less heat transfer from the motor/engine to the pump. Heat is the number one killer of pumps and will greatly reduce the lifespan of the pump. Also, a belt driven pump is usually a reduction drive system so the pump is spinning at a lower rpm than what the motor/engine would be. In turn, reducing the wear and tear on the pump and allowing for a much longer lifespan of the machine.

Simpson has developed a great reputation with their professional pressure washers, and this unit demonstrates why.

The KB3030 provides you with a heavy duty coil backed by a 5-year warranty and is powered by a 8 HP Briggs and Stratton engine. The sturdy steel powder-coated frame and large 13 inch tires keep you in control, and make maintenance much easier on your back.

If you need to use hot water to clean with, and versatility is important , this is a very good unit to choose.

 Not a wise buy

This comes with a 2700 max psi General pump. That pump is cranked down to run as fast as possible, which the General pump rep I spoke with likened to driving your car at 95 mph all the time- you will blow the engine.

My company used this unit for approximately 25 hours before the pump blew. That repair cost close to $300. The configuration of this machine was mind boggling to the Authorized pump repair location here in Houston. In business since 1962, they have never seen a machine like this, and they classify it as a piece of manure.

 Definitely a Brute

I bought this hot water machine to have around the farm and it's definitely lived up to its name.

I have lots of projects going on and my brother-in-law runs late models that we work on out here so there's always grease and grime that needs to be cleaned up.

My old Massey looks better than my neighbor's Ford, and his is 15 years newer.

I love doing business with Pressure Washer Direct. They're good folks and I've bought some other stuff from them as well, so I had no qualms about buying this Simpson machine. It's been a good one.
