Q: on the pump, use any type of oil? by Anonymous on December 12, 2011
A: You will want to use a fully synthetic non detergent 30W pump oil. We carry a Briggs & Stratton version, I am posting a link below to this item on our website.
<a href="http://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/Briggs-&-Stratton-6033/p4323.html" title="http://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/Briggs-&-Stratton-6033/p4323.html" class="bluelink">B&S Pump Oil</a> by Bill, Product Expert
Q: Bill: What are the packaging dimensions for the Simpson Professional 4200 psi (Gas - Cold Water) Pressure Washer w/Honda GX Engine prepped for shipping? by Jack from California on November 29, 2011
A: The box dimensions for the model PS4240H-SP are 24.5" L x 29.5" W x 26 H. Plus this model is shipped on a pallet. by Bill, Product Expert
Q: TURBO JET Spray Nozzle specification? by John from Illinois on September 30, 2011
A: The nozzle orifice size is based off the psi and gpm rating of the pressure washer. For this model you would purchase a 4.0 orifice size turbo nozzle.
I am posting a link below to the specific nozzle on our site. See below:
Q: what pressure washer would you recommend me to use when using a 250 gallon water tank? Belt or Direct or even something else. I will be using it to pressure was cars and trucks at multi dealerships by Jason Gentry from South Carolina on May 10, 2011
A: When using a tank as a water source, you really should be looking at something more like a Karcher or Dirtkiller model washer with a self priming pump. The Simpson unit is a nice washer, but the pump cannot pull water from a standing source.
Q: Would it be safe to use a 4200 PSI pressure washer with this surface cleaner? Or would you recommended just turning down the pressure? by Jeff from Texas on March 30, 2011
A: Yes you can definitely use a 4200 psi pressure washer with this surface cleaner. You might want to dial down the pressure just a little bit but it really isnt needed. However, the only way you can push the full 4200 psi is by using a zero degree spray tip. Normal operating pressure of a 4200 psi model is going to be 4000 psi. The additional 200 psi is only obtained by constricting the water through the hose and spray tip that I mentioned. by Bill, Product Expert

Could have been better.
Bought this last year. Went through a lot of drama resolving a part issue that rendered the tool not able to be assembled correctly. This issue was corrected. I used this pressure washer twice last year and once this year. On my fourth attempt to use this tool the quick connect fitting for the wand hose failed by developing a major leak rendering the unit pretty much unuseable.
Although this purchase was for my own residential use I believed that the purchase of a better grade unit would let me avoid this type of issue. Furthermore, I have owned this unit for less than a year and I see that it is already discontinued. That is certainly inappropriate.I cant really say dont buy this because it is discontinued but i have to suggest avoiding this manufacturer as it appears that there are quality control issues.
PWD RESPONDS: Simpson's PowerShot PS4240 is still part of their active lineup as well as ours. The "SD" unit that comes up as Discontinued on our website was a Scratch & Dent unit that has already been sold.

Need a new fitting
Took a little longer to get it delivered then they told me but once it got here it works well. The only thing that does not work right it the quick connect from the hose to the handle, leaks pretty good. I hope to contact Simpson to get a new fitting.
PWD RESPONDS: Please contact the folks at Simpson directly at (847) 348-1508. Be sure to have the serial number of your unit handy when you call.

All the power I need
I love my Simpson 4200 pressure washer. It gives me all the power I need to use with my water broom in cleaning black streaks off of roofs.
Starts first pull every time. Just wish it was a little quieter but no biggie.
The 100 ft monster hose is something I needed to reach some of the heights I have to reach but its like wrestling an alligator to uncoil it and especially to roll it back up when I'm done with it. There has to be an easier way. Any suggestions?
PWD RESPONDS: A hose reel will help manage both the weight and the length. Just click on the Attachments button on our web site, then select Hose Reels. Or, you can enter Hose Reels into the white Search box on the right side of the page.
Either way, you'll see several reels to choose from!

First Impressions
This is only the second use of the Simpson Pressure Washer 4240H Ive enjoyed so my thoughts are somewhat preliminary.
Plenty of pressure for my purposes. I had to brace myself when using it the pressure was that great. The various spray nozzles were easy to install.
Engine started very easily. Initially, be sure and fill and not overfill the engine with the oil provided. Read the manual before doing it. It does seem to burn a moderate to large amount of gas. You might want to check the tank from time to time.
The unit comes with a big red knob to adjust the pressure to suit the situation. I could not turn it by hand. Called PWDirect and they said it sometimes comes very tight from the pump supplier and it was OK to use a wrench to get the nut under the knob loosened. That did it.
There is no mention of the pressure adjustment knob in the manual. Simpson should insert a page in the manual explaining its use.
So far its a great machine. I think I will order the turbo nozzle. It should make cleaning even easier.

We have tried several other pressure cleaners in our ship yard, including DeWalt and Rigid.
We blast barnacles and scum off of the bottoms of large pleasure yachts. This Simpson is the the most professional and rugged and does its job as advertised !
Simply put- This machine is the Best

Great Unit!
I bought the Simpson made in USA brand because of the Honda GX engine and General triplex pump. This unit is awesome!
Easy to start and operate. The Honda engine is easy on fuel considering the engine CC and HP.
What a time saver, I pressure washed everything from floor mats to my concrete driveway using the various spray tips supplied. I also purchased the #4.0 soap shooter that bypasses the pump when using cleaning fluids not recommended for pump injection.
The sales person was helpful during my purchase and shipping was on time and the unit arrived in great condition.

What a difference
Was using a 2600 psi unit before- what a difference the 4200 psi unit makes.
Cuts work time by more than half. Only problem so far has been loss of wheel due to set screw ring loosening.

Sped things up
Well this is my second Simpson pressure washer.
Originally I bought this model back in December. While waiting for spring to come to the Northwest someone broke into my shed and stole the pressure washer, my walk behind mower, 2 weed eaters, a gas edger and cut my wire fence.
I am at the back end of dealing with my home owners insurance, the stolen items will be replaced and are either here or in route as of this review.
(I am hoping that whom ever stole the first pressure washer started it up because I had not put the engine oil in it yet!!! )
So now to the review. Setup was a breeze: add the motor oil, pour in some gas and start it up.
My cement driveway is 45 ft. wide by 80 ft. long, and it was ready for a good cleaning. This washer sped things up by a factor of almost 10 from my previous 2800psi 2.6gpm gas washer.
For me this pressure washer is great and I would recommend it to anyone.

Awesome unit!
I bought this unit to do some serious cleaning aroung the house and cottage. My old unit, which still works fine, was a Karcher electric 1200 psi unit. I found my cleaning jobs were taking too long for my aging body. That being said, I borrowed a 2600 psi HondaCat unit from a friend to speed up a concrete cleaning job I was working on. I found it worked well speeding up my job a little bit. The pressure increase was noticeable but not what I was expecting. This is how I decided to buy the Simpson unit.
So, 30 minutes to unpack, fuel and oil, and it was time to try it out. The job was to clean 12 years worth of dirt and algae off a 140 foot 2 x 6 PT dock deck. I set the pressure regulator at 25% and put the green tip (40 degree) in. The pressure regulator is 4 turns from minimum to maximum so the setting was one turn up from minimum. The Honda engine, like every other one I've owned, started with one pull.
After about five minutes of playing around I increased the pressure setting to 50%. WOW very noticeable increase. I left the green tip in and pressure at 50% for the entire job. I was able to clean a whole 2 x 6 in one pass. With my old unit it took three passes at half the speed. I was able to clean a 8 x 140 dock in the same amount of time as the old electric one did a 8 x 32 deck of the same age.
Now to put the unit to the test...nasty concrete sea wall. I left the pressure at 50% and changed to the yellow tip (15 degree). Again, very noticeable change in cleaning power. Lots of power for that job.
Play time...I switched to the red nozzle (0 degree) and stepped up the pressure up to 100%. Holy crap, another amazing step up in pressure. I used this to blast weeds and stones etc off the beach into the water. There was enough power to push a rock the size of a small motorcycle helmet. Impressive to say the least.
For the short period of use I am truly impressed. Hopefully both the pump and the engine go the distance.
Well spent $1000.

Got the job done in half the time
I clean sidewalks and around gas station pumps as part of my business.
I bought a Ridgid 3000 psi running at 2.6 gallons a minute, it works really well and starts really easy, but when cleaning grease and stains it was taking me forever to get the job done, at least when it came to larger job or areas.
So I decided to try one with more pressure and I bought the Simpson 4200 psi pressure washer. I have only used it twice so I cant tell anyone how reliable it is.
The only problem I had with the machine or delivery was I noticed the spark arrester is not installed and I don't know if they have you put it in or someone forgot to put it in.
The box was a little damaged and the bottom of the box was partially open, so it may have fallen out. I plan to call pressure washer direct to see if they will send me one. Hope this helps.
However, I can tell you that thing is a beast and works really well. I went and did the same gas station and was able to get the job done in half the time compared to my 3000 psi Ridgid.
There is so much pressure coming out that you literally blast the cement into looking damn near brand new. more gallons per minute means a lot, since it does not take as long or as much to pressure wash large areas.
I also like the fact it has a large gas tank on it and the wheels are not hard plastic. They remind me of kid's quad tires and you can roll over things like nothing, hoses, curbs, or anything like that with ease.
PWD RESPONDS:We don't carry any spare parts in stock, so would you please contact the folks at Simpson directly (toll free) at (847) 348-1508? They should be able to send a spark arrester out right away.
It is important to note any damage to the box when you sign for a shipment. Since the box was open when it was delivered, issues can arise if damage or missing parts become apparent later on.
