Q: Can an electric pressure washer be used for a wood deck? About 600 square feet.
by Don from Arkansas on August 14, 2016

A: In most cases, yes it can. You control how hard the spray strikes the wood by which nozzle you choose & how far you hold it from the surface.

This unit comes with 0°, 25° & 65° soap applicator nozzles. The degree measurement is how wide the spray fans out- the wider the fan, the gentler the spray.

I'd suggest starting in an inconspicuous place on your deck with the 65°(black) nozzle and experiment with how far to keep the nozzle from the surface. You want to clean the gunk off, but not gouge the wood or raise the grain. Depending on the condition of your deck, you may be able to use a smaller nozzle and stand farther away.

You might find a Sprayglide Roller to be a handy gadget to get even results.

Q: Hi Mike I just received the ss390 model. Love it but the hose reel is very hard to turn. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave B
by Dave from Michigan on July 03, 2016

A: I have not heard of that issue before. I suggest reaching out to AR at 866-235-5112. Please let me know if I can be of any further help on this.
by Brian, Product Expert
Q: Mike, it appears that AR makes a quality product in pressure washers and I would like your opinion is the price difference between the AR383 and the AR390SS worth the money? If so, can you please explain? Thanks,
by Dave Moore from Missouri on May 25, 2015

A: The internal assembly is the same however the AR390SS has upgraded the external features including the water connections. The gun, wand and tip assembly are all upgrades that you would find on a more expensive gas model. All the upgrades I've ever wanted on a consumer electric are on this unit.
by Brian, Product Expert
Q: Mike:
I recently purchased an AR1800PSI Electric Pressure Washer Model AR391SS. While using it for the first time (and strictly according to the manufacturer’s instructions), the motor started belching copious amounts of acrid smoke. I immediately turned off the machine and plan to return it to the supplier. I have scoured the manual and could find no reference to this problem. I’ve used power washers successfully for twenty years, so this situation is new to me. Do you know what might have caused this problem? Why should I still consider an AR power washer? I still need an electric power washer and am impressed with the reviews of the AR Blue Clean Supreme 2000 PSI (Electric Cold-Water) Pressure Washer. However, I don’t want another motor malfunction like the one I had on the AR391SS model. What do you suggest I do?
Randy

by Randy from Maryland on May 24, 2015

A: AR is one of the best in the consumer line up and I've not heard of any motor issues with this supplier but it sounds like you had a bad one. I would ensure you are not using an extension cord and not running the machine for long periods of time. The motor does need to rest during long work periods.
by Brian, Product Expert
Q: Mike, I am struggling between buying the AR390SS and the Generac 6596. I like the ease of electric (less maintenance) vs power of a gas washer. I will be using the pressure washer to clean my drive way, house siding, clean 2nd story windows and the car. Will an electric washer be capable of these items or should I go with gas?

Appreciate your guidance. Also, do you suggest a different product vs the ones I listed?

by Phil from Texas on May 17, 2015

A: A electric is great for small around the house task but if you have a large driveway, 2nd story home and or a lot of cleaning task you'll really wish you had the power of a gas machine. It will cut your cleaning down to a 1/4 of the time.

I love using an electric for quick jobs since there's no gas to deal with but to clean the siding of my two story house and patios I pull the gas one out. The 6596 is a super value right now at the lowest price of the season.
by Brian, Product Expert
Q: can extentions be used? if so which ones and how many can be put together? im cleaning a 2 story house with a steep steel roof.so far im winging it since ive never done this before. Im hoping that Im getting the right machine for this. Im in a wheelchair and have to hire brawn that comes with minimal brains. so I have to borrow some of yours.?!? maybe you could suggest accessories that would be necessary. Ive enjoyed your website and information.
by Willy Hugoboom from California on May 14, 2015

A: I'm pulling this out of the owners manual which is found on our specs tab - far right under documents.

Never use an extension power cord since it
defeats the effectiveness of the GFCI and
increases the chance of electrocuting the
operator.

My recommendations for this job would to hire a local crew who has the safety equipment to clean your roof and is insured.
by Brian, Product Expert
Q: Where on the unit does the high pressure hose connect? I have seen several photos and each one shows the connection in a different place. Also, does the high pressure hose have to be completely removed from the reel to be used?
by Kenny Isaac from Kansas on May 03, 2015

A: The high pressure hose will connect at the back of the pressure washer on the bottom (in between the wheels). This can bee seen on page 9 of the owner's manual I have attached.

Owner's Manual

This does come with an active hose reel, meaning you do not have to unwind the entire hose before using the pressure washer.
by Brian, Product Expert
Q: Hey Mike. AR390SS shows a wobble pump on this website, but a tri-plex on Home Depot's site. Which is correct? Tried looking at AR's site, but couldn't find that info. Thanks!
by Jim Veil from Michigan on March 15, 2015

A: This unit has a wobble pump on it. Originally it was claimed to have a triplex plunger pump, but it does have a wobble pump on it.
by Brian, Product Expert
Q: Is the pump housing plastic?
by Larry Morrison from Iowa on December 05, 2014

A: The housing is an ABS plastic, however, unlike other consumer electric pressure washers, this unit has brass fittings for the hoses.

AR produces some of the best electric pressure washers available in the market today, and this is definitely one model that I would recommend.
Unlike most electric pressure washers in this category, this model uses brass fittings- which is a huge plus over the more commonly used plastic fittings.

The reliable pump is paired with a heavy-duty motor and contained in an easy to transport, stable frame. Storage slots on the side keep the wand and nozzles from getting lost, and a pressurized... more

Awesome!
My prior pressure washer was a Husky which I really liked. But it got to the point where I needed a new system. After reading reviews, I decided to spend a few dollars more (than the competition) to get the AR 390SS.

Now, honestly, I have never used a gas unit...just electric. But, after spending an afternoon with this one, all I can say is I wish I had purchased it a long time ago! I really like it!

The Worst Power Washer I Ever Bought In My Life
The worst power washer I ever bought in my life. It's nothing but a total piece of garbage you use it more than three or four times everything on it leaks and then they won't take it back because I had it over 30 days total BS.
Brian, the Pressure Washer Expert
Product Expert
Chester,
This unit has a 1 year Factory Warranty through AR, so you are covered until 2/24/2017! Please give the folks at AR a call, toll free, at 866-235-5112. They will be happy to help you.

Please be sure to have the serial number if your pressure washer handy when you call them. If you need a copy of your invoice just click on My Account in the upper right corner of our website and follow the prompts to print one out.

I checked your account and I don't see where you've contacted us directly. We would have been happy to explain that the Pressure Washers Direct Return Policy limits folks who have changed their minds and want to return a new item to 30 days; but everything we sell has a Factory Warranty on it from the manufacturer to help our customers.

If it's your garden hose connection that's leaking, a new hose gasket (about a quarter at a hardware or grocery store) and a couple wraps of Teflon pipe tape (about a dollar) will stop the leaks. If it's the high pressure attachments that are leaking the folks at AR will have safe solutions for you.

Manufacturer Response
Brand Rep
Chester,
The leaking you reported in not a common occurrence with any of our machines. I am guessing that it could be a very simple fix. Please call 1-866-235-5112 and ask for Tom or James and one of us will take care of this for you. We will assess the issue and either send you a replacement part or replace the entire machine under your one year bumper to bumper warranty. No need to worry, we have you covered.

Great To Have Something You Don't Have To Worry Whether It Will
Great unit, good power, reliable, only downfall is the same with all power washers. A better way to reel the hose up would be helpful.

Would buy again though. And would definitely recommend.
Pros: I'd Buy It Again, Quiet, Price, Reliable
Cons: None of the above, better hose reel would be nice.

Larry,
Laying the hose out in the sun a few times will help it uncurl- that should make it easier to work with, and also easier to put back onto the reel.

Awesome Pressure Washer
The power washer works great and PWD was easy to work with. They had it to me within a few days. It is incredibly easy to assemble and operate.

The only complaint I have, which is very minor, is the hose is much to stiff for the roller. You can't wind up the hose using the handle or unwind by simply pulling it. You have to grab the side of the roller and manually wind and unwind.

Other than that, great power washer for a great price.
Pros: Easy To Use, Light Weight, Easy To Store, Price
Cons: hose roller isn't the best for the hose

Doug,
I believe you will find that as the weather warms up the hose will become more pliable and easy to handle. If you have a sunny day to lay the hose out flat for a bit it will help relax the curves and make it easier to get on the reel.

We appreciate your business, and apologize for any inconvenience.

Great Purchase
I have had a Honda powered Karcher for the last 12 years primarily for home use. Concrete, fencing, siding, etc. When it finally needed to be put to bed, I opted for taking a chance on the convenience of electric power.

Best move I could have made. This little machine has plenty of power, lightweight, with no leak issues so far.

Best part is that it starts every time I plug it in :)

Girl's Pressure Washer Does A Boy's Job
I am a woman in my mid 50's that lives alone. My home is a ranch on several acres which I take care of myself. I have my father's huge Honda compressor combo pressure washer....a beast of a gas machine. It's on wheels but weighs a ton.

I wanted a way to clean my decks without dragging the beast up stairs. This pressure washer is light, easy to move and does the job.

Highly recommend!

Very Pleased
Fast shipping, very easy to assemble, but would be nice to include the 5/8" allen wrench.

Works well, the sidewalk difference was amazing. Have to keep the nozzle pretty close to the surface, but mine had not been done for 15 years.

Hose is a little stiff, but nice and long, as is the electrical cord. Great to have all of the different nozzles. Glad that I went electric and avoided the gas hassle and pollution.

For doing the house, sidewalks, decks and screens, it is a... more

Easy to assemble and it fits the bill. I think I need more PSI to do the work. I'm cleaning paver stones( a big area) and I'm used to probably 3k or 4k PSI.

Brian,
You might want to try the AR Blue Clean Patio Cleaner. It is designed to clean fairly flat surfaces quickly. The spinning arm has jets that focus the high pressure spray directly on the surface, leaving a smoother finish than a spray nozzle will.

You don't need to push down on the Surface Cleaner; it 'hovers' over the surface on the powerful spray.

Since you have an AR390SS you would also need to order the AR Blue Clean PW3082750 Adapter to attach the Surface Cleaner to your unit.

Takes Too Long To Bleed Air Out
Works good but it takes 20 min are more to bleed air out of washer when I first go to use it. Right now not pleased.
Brian, the Pressure Washer Expert
Product Expert
Randy,
You are correct- 20 minutes is far too long to remove the air from the pump; it should only take a minute to let the water flow through and drive out any air, maybe 2 minutes- but not more than that.

Please make sure you have enough water getting to the pump- if it's starved for water it would sound like there's air in the pump. You should have at least a 5/8" hose, no longer than 50 feet, hooked up to a city water supply that puts out at least 2 gallons per minute. If you are running off a well it may not be putting out enough water.

Also check to make sure the inlet filter where the garden hose attaches is clear- if it's blocked it will limit the water flow (page 5 in your Owner's Manual).

If these tips don't help please give the folks at AR a call at 866-235-5112 to see if your unit needs to be repaired or replaced under their 1 year Factory Warranty. Please have the serial number if your unit handy if you call them; they will need it to set up your claim. If you need a copy of your invoice just click on "My Account" in the upper right corner of our website and follow the prompts to print one out.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience.

Totally Elated
Purchased an electric power washer for jobs not requiring the blast of my 3200 psi gas washer. This unit is very easy to move around and set up versus my big brute. Does a remarkable job cleaning brick walkways and patios. Removing the grime off exterior walls was easy, too. There is always the danger of blowing out mortar or damaging siding with the hi pressure washer. This unit works perfectly.

Returned today from the beach where I had to tend some oyster cages. They were full of sea... more

Great Product
I purchased this pressure washer in hopes that it would take care of the things I needed to do around the house. It works great. I've done both of my decks and results are awesome.

I didn't want the hassle of a gas powered pressure washer with worrying about fuel and oil and cranking it up and cleaning the carburetor. So this is just what I was looking for.

The only complaint that I have with this unit is the hose and hose reel. Doesn't work exactly how you would expect and the hose is... more
