Q: Other than appearance, what is the difference between the K5.68 and the K5Premium?
by Clark from New York on July 13, 2016

A: The body style and the detergent tank are the main features that this unit does not have. The guts are the same. However, this unit supplies a 1 year warranty and the K5 Premium supply's a 2 year warranty.

Q: Hi Mike,
How do I

Hi Mike,
How does the electrical cjord wind to the pressure washer.

by Blair from Hawaii on July 05, 2016

A: There is not a spot on the pressure washer to wind the power cord. The power cord comes out of the back of the pressure washer.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: during winter -will this be damaged in any way I am talking about model k5.68. Is this a good choice for cedar siding and concrete and pavers?
by Bill from New Jersey on June 02, 2011

A: During the winter you would want to take this inside. The problem you can have is the pumps and other pieces on the machine freeze up and the washer would not work.

This would work fine on your pavers and the siding.

Thanks,

Q: What kind of detergent or other liquids such as ArmorAll be used in the Karcher model K5.68 pressure washer?
by DARYL HAMMOND from Ohio on April 30, 2011

A: I would only recommend detergents that are labeled as being "pressure washer safe". There are many different types and brands available. Any other type of chemical that is used in this machine could absolutely dry out the seals and o rings and cause the pump to leak or stop producing pressure.

Unfortunately we do not carry any type of ArmorAll chemical that is considered "pressure washer safe". I am posting a link below to all of the detergents we carry:

Q: Do you have any self priming pressure washers for sale (gas or electric) ? I have wood deck on my 1/2 acre pond to clean & would like to be able to use the pond water. Thankyou.
by John from Ohio on March 25, 2011

A: Yes, all Karcher branded pressure washers both the gas and electric versions have self priming pumps that can pull water from a standing source such as a tank or pond. We also sell Kranzle and DirtKiller brand pressure washers which too have self priming pumps. Kranzle and DirtKiller only offer professional grade pressure washers while Karcher offers residential and prosumer grade models.

I would definitely recommend that you use a filter on the end of the hose that is placed in the pond to prevent debris from entering the pump. Karcher makes a hose with filter for this purpose that we sell as an accessory.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: What happens when you use hot water in a Karcher electric power washer? I never knew they were (Electric-Cold Water) listed.
by Bob Mills from Michigan on March 25, 2011

A: Karcher's cold water pressure washers can accept water up to 104F degrees. This is common with all cold water pressure washers. Using water hotter than 104F degrees in a cold water pressure washer will definitely damage and wear away the seals in the pump, causing the pump to fail. This is the fastest way to damage a pump that is rated for "cold water".
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Just bought the Karcher 3.74 from you guys. What is the "Pump Guard" which is recommended for storing and protecting the pump? And how do I use such?
by Preben Jensen from California on March 24, 2011

A: The Karcher pump guard is a chemical that is designed to extend the life of the pump and the seals within. Pump guard or pump saver as it is also called, will lubricate the seals in the pump and also prevent any water that is left inside the pump from freezing during the colder months.

To use this product, you simply attach it to your garden hose water inlet fitting and turn the machine on for a few seconds. Once the chemical exits the outlet high pressure fitting, the pump is protected.

You should defintely run this chemical through the pump every time you are going to store your pressure washer away for extended periods of time such as over 30 days. You should also run this chemical through the pump periodically throughout the year to keep the seals moist.

Very Disappointed
I am very disappointed- it is cheap plastic. The wheel fell off, the wand holder & cord holder broke, and it falls over when pulling hose out from the reel. The pressure Hose near the wand is ready to split.

I have owned Karcher products in the past and they were very well made & made to last. I thought the unit was made in Germany- not so, it's made in China. I will not waste my money on another one.

I have not used the unit a lot, I expected it to last longer. It's only a year... more

Bad Pressure Washer
I purchased this from this company and at first I loved it. It was powerful, quiet, and worked extremely well. One day it started leaking from the bottom and it would no longer pump water. Keep in mind that I don't use this that often at all.

I took it apart and there is a leak in a pump seal near where it connects to the hose. I called the only company in my city who fixes such things, they said that Karcher was the cheapest and least reliable company on the market and they could make... more

3rd Such Power Washer
All 3 malfunctioned less than 3 months after purchase. Call me a sucker! The last, has been under warranty repair since Sept 7 2013. Several parts were back ordered and one is still on back order (2 months to date).

The unit had some good qualities but overall I would recommend that you shop elsewhere for a unit for personal use.
Pros: Easy To Use, Quiet, Easy To Store
Cons: Unreliable, Durability, Warranty Parts On Back Order For 2 Mo

Great Product
For an around the house power washer it kicks butt. I have only had it for a year, and used it a few times, but the performance is great.

I am a little skeptical about the longevity of some of the hose connections, but time will tell. I think I made a wise purchase.
Pros: Easy To Store, Easy To Use, Price, I'd Buy It Again

Gary,
Adding a garden hose quick connect set will help reduce wear & tear on the garden hose connection. You can usually find them at any hardware store for around $5 for plastic, under $10 for brass.

Same Bad Feature
My last Karcher leaked from where the hose hooks up to the machine. This one does too. Can't do a job without water leaking all over. Same cheap plastic parts will break too.
Pros: Easy To Store, Light Weight
Cons: Durability, Low Quality, Expensive

Sally,
There are a couple things you can do to stop, or at least greatly reduce, the leaking where your garden hose attaches to the pressure washer.

First, put a fresh garden hose gasket (a round rubber or plastic ring about the size of a quarter) in the end of your garden hose. You can get several for under a dollar at hardware & grocery stores.

Second, put a couple wraps of teflon pipe tape (again, under a dollar at hardware & grocery stores) around the threads of the connector where your garden hose attaches.

Better yet- get a plastic garden hose quick connect set (under $5 at the hardware store). Use the fresh garden hose gasket and the pipe tape, and you should have a tighter, and more convenient, fit.

Karcher K5.68 Needs An Ac Cord Holder
We not only live in the woods with moss growing on our brick porch, but we also have an in the ground swimming pool. The Karcher is everything that I hoped for and more. It does a great job.

BUT, what are we supposed to do with the AC cord? Your instructions talk about the handy hose reel, but the pictures don't even show that there is an AC cord. When we wind it up and hang it over the handle either the cord falls off or it get stuck under the wheels.

Speaking of the wheels. When I... more

Steve,
One of our team members has this unit, and they coil up their electric cord and hang it over the handle of the spray gun when it's in the holster. They use a small bungee cord to hold the cord coils neatly together.

My Second Review On This Item
Not much to tell about this particular washer that I purchased, Ive already submitted my first impression of this unit. All I can add is that I am extremely pleased with the purchase.

I have used it several times since the first review and have tried it on several different things to clean. It performed flawless and did a very good job.

The last wash/cleaning job I did was to remove brake dust from the front wheels on my wife's car, the difference between the first washer I had and... more

Worst Purchase Ever
This is going to be a rant, so sorry in advance.

I did not buy this from PWD. I am actually here searching for a replacement for the k5.68 that has died on me for the final time, and this was a warranty replacement under the karcher exchange program for the first one i bought which only lasted 9 months before the pump seized and karcher wrote it off (they cut the plug off and junked it in a container full of dead karchers in the back of the repair shop... I should have known then that it was... more

Steve,
The terms of Karcher's Rapid Exchange Factory Warranty say "...any remaining time on your original warranty will be applied to your replacement pressure washer. For example, if you bought a pressure washer on January 1 with a one-year warranty and exchanged it with the Rapid Exchange Program on July 15, the replacement pressure washer would be covered until December 31, the expiration date of your original warranty."

Unhappy
I purchased the Karcher K5.68 on January 28, 2013, and used it three times to do normal duties like my driveway, sidewalks and pool pavers. I had problems right away with the quick connect, so I called PressureWasher.com and they gave me a phone number that was not correct.

So I searched the Internet and found a parts provider... keep in mind Karcher.com did not have this info. The provider sold me a brass part for the water input and it worked much better. The third time I used the power... more

Gurn,
Our Return Policy link is posted at the bottom of every page of our web site (Pressure Washers Direct.com). This morning we checked the Technical Support number for Karcher USA, it is still (800) 537-4129, the same as it has been for quite some time. Details of the Rapid Exchange program are available at http://www.karcherresidential.com/us/Service/rapid_exchange.htm.

The Factory Warranty is offered by Karcher on their products, and the Rapid Exchange program is how they handle small electric pressure washers. Our records show we contacted Karcher on the customer's behalf to appeal their decision, but Karcher elected to abide by their published policy.

Karcher's Pump Saver product is described in the K5.68 Owner's Manual on page 14; we sell it under our Supplies tab. Any brand of pump saver product is good for any brand of pressure washer.

Quick connectors for garden hoses are available on our web site and at most hardware stores. They save wear & tear on threaded connections, and are not brand-specific.

Compare carefully- pressure washers packaged for the big warehouse clubs may not have all of the features of units offered elsewhere.
