Q: Bill, on an electric pressure washer that specifies 'cold water' does this mean that even warm is unacceptable? by Tom from Washington on March 18, 2012
A: Any "cold water" machine can accept water up to 104F degrees. Any temperature of water above 104F degrees will definitely damage the pump's seals and cause the pump not to produce pressure by Bill, Product Expert
Q: I'm looking for a powerwasher to clean cemet walkways, small patio and vinyl sided house/front steps (timbertech). would the Campbell Hausfeld pw1835 be a good fit or is the Karcher better? is the pressure adjustable as I don't want to damage the siding.
Thank you
by Jodi from Connecticut on June 07, 2011
A: Either the Campbell or the Karcher would work fine with this. They do have adjustable pressure on the lance. So you would not do any damage to the siding or anything else.
Q: I was looking at the Campbell Hausfeld model PW1835. My main use is to clean concrete, driveway & 2500 sq ft of patio pavers. Is the 1800 psi enough for this large area? Do you have a cleaner recommended for pavers? and is there another pressure washer brand that I should be looking at instead? Thanks for your help by Julie Lehocky from Illinois on May 26, 2011
A: Something like this would do what you want to do. Now the reason to go to a higher psi would be to get the job done faster. Now going up to say 2000 psi, is not going to make a big enough difference you would see. I would be talking about at least 2500 psi and these would then be gas units.
We do offer cleaners for your job. My suggestion would be to use a concrete cleaner, this would be best for pavers and other pavement. You could also take a look at the AR models, but the variation is not going to be great.
I used my pressure washer machine for the first time early this week and the female to female plastic coupling leaked terribly. I went out and purchased a brass one and it works with very little leaking even though it still leaks.
The machine is not as strong as another brand 1750 PSI machine I was borrowing from my neighbor. I need to use this one a few more times to truly see if I am satisfied with the Campbell Hausfeld machine I have.
I strongly suggest that the manufacturer replace the female to female coupling on their machines assuming I am not the only one with this problem.
As far as Pressure Washers Direct, this is my first time dealing with them and they are excellent in communicating with me regarding the machine I bought. I am pleased with them a lot.
PWD RESPONDS: Teflon pipe tape is helpful in stopping leaks- and it's about a dollar at any hardware or grocery store.
Plastic threads are popular at this price point; they are cost effective. So, a quick connect kit is a good idea to save wear & tear on plastic threads.
You may need to step up to Prosumer grade units to get metal threads or quick connects.

Very happy
Very happy with the performance of the #1835 model. My husband who is in his 60s was able to power wash the vinyl siding on our home in about 6 hours. The instruction manual was easy to follow, but it takes some practice getting used to dispensing the soap in the low pressure mode. We were debating rental or purchase and for the cost of a rental this machine will pay for itself in 3 uses.
I used the machine myself with the turbo lance to clean the blocks of my patio and around the swimming pool. Being female I was afraid I would not be able to handle a power washer, but this machine was fine. The only draw backs are the length of the power cord. My pool is 18 x 36 so I could not reach to the far side of the pool blocks. I called the company and was told never to use an extension cord, that it would damage the motor. And the limit of a 50 ft hose for the water. Fortunately I have hose connections in the front and back of my home
The added feature of the reel was worth the additional cost. Great product.

I ordered this PW1835 from PWD and received it within 2 weeks. This unit comes with very little assembly required.
The phillips screw needed to attach one plastic holder was missing, so the holder can't yet be used. When I turned on the water to the hose, with no power on yet, the cheap plastic swivel connector between the pump & hose broke apart where a thin wire clip holds the two halves together. You'll need to replace it with a metal plumbing part... 0.75in x 0.75in Female Hose Pipe Swivel. At the store, they were incredulous at the cheap plastic screw on connector, and kept pointing to their pressure washers, with heavy duty, permanently attached connectors to which the hose gets attached.
After all this running around, the unit worked well the 2 days I used it. It does tip over quite often, and water from the hose flows out the bottom when the pressure is not in use. I am not sure if this should be happening. Still... probably feel this is a good buy for the amount of PSI for the price... plus the $4.12 plumbing part, gas to the store & back, & cost when I finally find the right size screw....
I am using this to clean a deck. It is more powerful than the old 1000 PSI washer I had been using. This higher PSI beats up the wood more easily, so much more care needs to be used. This summer has been my first experience with using a pressure washer. Water did not flow out of my old pressure washer when power was not on. I think this is the difference between a good or cheap method of connecting to a hose. One stops the flow of water when pressure is off and the other does not.
PWD RESPONDS: Your unit comes with a 1 year Factory Warranty. If you would give the folks at Campbell Hausfeld a call, toll free, at (800) 543-6400 they will be happy to advise you & send you the replacement parts you need.

Bigger is not always Better
My PW1835 is a replacement for a 2600psi gas washer. I was amazed at the cleaning power and ease of operation of this 1800psi unit. No leaks around the hose inlet. Construction and design is excellent.
I used it on a 1250sq. ft deck. No chewing, and furring of the wood was minimal. The adjustable pressure and fan spray nozzle made it even easier by not having to change tips for different applications.
I used it for 7 hours and was not tired from the kickback of the wand like the gas model. I highly recommend the PW1835 for home use over more powerful gas models. No gas to buy, no oil to change, no stopping to refuel and lightweight, too but it does not tip over like reports of other other electric washers with top reels.
Truly a five star unit.

cheap plastic fitting
The cheap plastic fitting on the front, you connect the garden hose to, leaks big time. No amount of tape will fix it. The leak is between the connection to the washer and the connection to the hose. I took the copper fitting off my old power washer and installed it on the new PW1835 washer and it works like new.
For a few dollars more, Campbell Hausfeld could have a real good power washer. Prepare to replace the connection if you buy this model.

Gold Star
I bought this without knowing a single thing about pressure washers except what size my husband wanted. It arrived and we could not be happier with this model.
Does all that you want it to do without blowing the finish off everything. I got a gold star and my husband has a pressure washer he loves!
thank you

Good Electric Power Washer
Had a Karcher. Lasted only a few years use. Comparing the old to new, this new one is so superior.
Better balanced, ease of connecting better. No leaks on new one, ease of storing cords much better. This one has more power. But I would not go any stronger for decks. Any more power and you're eating up the wood.
One problem I had in first time use was the connection on the power wand would disconnect for no apparent reason. It happened several times. To reconnect you must shut water & power supply. Maybe it just was not tightened enough. I did not use a tool. I would have awarded a 5 star rating if not for this.
It is a first time use, so time will tell as far as endurance. The job of cleaning 2 decks went fast and without hassle. I would recommend this washer.
PWD RESPONDS: You should be able to connect the wand without tools- usually they need to be pushed in, then turned until you feel a click so you know they are locked in place.
If you still have problems with the wand, please give the folks at Campbell Hausfeld a call (toll free) at (800) 543-6400. They will be able to advise you, and replace the wand if need be.
The Campbell Hausfeld folks will ask for the serial number of your unit, so be sure to have it handy when you call.
