Q: Hi Mike - I have a cedar shingled house that could use some good cleaning (has been on for about 6 years). I also have a long redwood fence that I want to clean well before staining/sealing. Will an electric pressure washer would you recommend to do both jobs.
by William Alvarez from California on July 15, 2015

A: Yes, 2000 PSI would be the perfect amount of PSI for those tasks. You do not want to go to much higher or you could damage those surfaces permanently. I would not hesitate to recommend this Karcher unit for your task at hand.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Mike,

Would I be disapointed in getting an electric power wahser. Looking at karcher 2000 psi. I bought one from home depot once and it never worked. blew fuses or just wouldnet start. I need it to thoroughly clean my deck. Thanks. Todd Q.

by Todd from Texas on May 31, 2015

A: If gas is not an option this unit would be one of our top picks in the consumer electric line up.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: can you add more hose to the 5.540 and if so how much?
by Gene Bradshaw from Virginia on April 22, 2015

A: Yes, they do make a 25FT extension hose for that unit. I have attached a link for you to view that item.

Q: Hey Mike, I'm looking at this Karcher "X" series 2000 psi electric P.W. and want to know if it has high pressure soap injection. I have a 3000 psi Honda and the soap injection is low pressure injected which makes for a poor car wash cleaner.. Thank you sir..

by Don from Missouri on May 19, 2014

A: No this unit has to be set to low pressure just like most other washers. The low pressure is what allows the suction tube to create a vacuum and draw detergents. With that being said, they do make a foamer for this unit that is perfect for washing cars. It will attach to the end of the wand and dispense a thick foam. I have attached a link for you to view that item.

Q: Can any of the Karcher series be use for jetting drains? If not, can you recommend a "best" make and model.
by Ken from California on February 13, 2014

A: These will not be able to perform exactly as a jetter will because it does not have a pulsating pump. The trigger gun will allow you to create a pulsation with the drain cleaner hose attachment I have provided a link to. This will use the bayonet fitting and attach into your spray gun.

Q: Can you tell me the Karcher K5.740`s box size(length, width, height) and weight?
I must send it to South Korea.

by Son on August 10, 2012

A: The dimensions for the packaging of model K5.740 are 24" L x 15 1/2" W x 16" H. The shipping weight of the package is 39 lbs.

by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Will The Karcher K5.740 accept universal nozzles? I have a "turbo" one that connected to my now "dead" gas power washer via a 1/4" QD socket. Will Karcher K5 accept after market nozzles or just the wands that come with it? Thanks.
by Mike on July 24, 2012

A: No, unfortunately the Karcher electric models will not accept nozzles that use a 1/4" quick connect plug. The Karcher K5.740 will only accept the Karcher brand wands and attachments due to the unique bayonet style fittings that are used.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: I have a red cedar siding home and also many decks and porches that need to be done, We are looking at electric because we need to store it in our basement, Could you recomend the best washer for our jobs, We have never done this before ourselves.
by Cindy from New York on July 02, 2012

A: The Karcher X-Series is a good choice; their water-cooled motor is less prone to overheating than other electric models.

Please remember to break large tasks into smaller segments, especially with the record high temperatures around the country- you and your pressure washer will appreciate it.

Cedar is a soft wood; pressure washer spray is strong enough to gouge or raise the grain if you hold the sprayer too close to the wood.

Use a wide spray, stand back and test in an inconspicuous spot until you get the hang of it. Our article How To Revitalize Your Deck has some good tips, especially if you're using a deck cleaning detergent.

Q: does this unit shut off when you release the trigger?
by Juan on April 02, 2012

A: Yes, this machine does have the total start/stop feature when you press and/or release the trigger.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: is KARCHER K5 700T300 SAME LIKE THIS ONE?
by ALLY on October 05, 2011

A: Yes it is the same machine but the K5 700 is the european version. I do not believe you can purchase this model in the U.S. Also, the 300 part of that model number means that the T300 surface cleaner is included with this pressure washer.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Hello, Is Karcher X Series 2000 PSI (Electric-Cold Water) Pressure Washer model 240 V. and also can You tell international shipping price to Armenia Yerevan
by Davit on October 01, 2011

A: No, the Karcher X series model runs off of 120 voltage.

Unfortunately we do not ship any products outside of the U.S. at all so I am unable to quote you a shipping cost.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Can the pressure be turned lower than 2000 PSI for applications that need lower pressure?

Are there any recommendations from keeping the PW from tipping forward as easily as the reviews indicate?

Do accesseries have a shipping charge?

by Janet Cowan from Minnesota on August 26, 2011

A: No, this model does not have an adjustable pressure regulator to lower the psi output. This unit does come wth an adjustable spray wand though that you can rotate to lower the psi output. The lowest you can adjust the wand down to is about 1600 psi. By doing this, you will also decrease the fan spray pattern width.

Q: Where can I get a copy of the Karcher Model K2093 Manual ?

Q: Hi. I was looking at the Karcher pressure washers and noticed two models that seem to fit the bill... the k5.740 and the k5.540. What's the difference between the two? From the specs, they appear to be identical.
by John Dunn from Connecticut on July 28, 2011

A: These 2 machines are exactly the same except for the housing on the K5.740 is more rugged and heavy duty. The K5.540 is strictly designed for consumer usage. The pump and motor are exactly the same on these 2 models.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Some of the Karcher pressure washers are for industrial use?.... Ihave a car wash and I would like one of continuous use.
by MR. VALDEZ from California on June 17, 2011

A: If you are looking for a model for continuous use. You would want to be looking at Shark, this would be the commercial line of Karcher. Something like a CB-402007B would be better for what you are looking to do.

Thanks,

Q: Do electric pressure washers require any routine pump maintenance.
by Rex Hagen from Illinois on June 07, 2011

A: No, these are going to be maintenance free pumps. We do suggest you use a product called pump saver with this upon storage for the season. This helps keep the seels lubricated and winterizes the pump.

Q: I have a Karcher K5.740
The garden hose connector cracked and I cannot find the rreplacement piece
Its actually the water inlet with connector that needs replaced
Where can I find this part?

by Steven Drexler from Pennsylvania on April 30, 2011

A: If you are referring to the quick connect adapter that comes with this unit, you can always purchase a metal garden hose quick connect kit that would be more durable. Unfortunately we do not carry the exact replacement adapter from Karcher.

If you are referring to the actual threaded water inlet that is attached to the machine, unfortunately we do not carry that type of part for this model pressure washer. If that is the part you are referring to, please visit www.pressureparts.com . They will more than likely have what you are looking for but there is a chance that part cannot be replaced.

If the garden hose quick connect adapter is what needs to be replaced, I am posting a link below to a product that would be compatible.

Q: this is probably a stupid question, can you guys ship to Australia?. Our dollar is good at the moment.

Q: I just purchased a Karcher K5.740. I can't seem to verify if this model has an upstream or downstream detergent injector. Would anyone happen to know?
by Daren from Tennessee on April 17, 2011

A: This model uses a detergent tank for the chemical injection. This would not be considered an upstream injection. The type of injection this model uses is more of a downstream injection because it pulls detergent through a siphon hose from the tank. However, a true downstream would apply the detergent at the end of the spray wand and would allow you to use any chemical you wanted. You can only spray detergent at low pressure with this model which is also why this injection is not considered upstream. However, I would still recommend that you only use pressure washer safe detergent such as Karcher's soap packs.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Can an extension cord be used or is it limited to the 25 foot power cord it comes with? How will this unit work for cleaning of a ski boat?
by Jeff from Idaho on April 04, 2011

A: Using an extension cord is not recommended with electric pressure washers. However, if the situation requires you to do so, you can use a 25' cord as long as it is an outdoor rated 14 gauge cord. You may increase the extension cord length up to 50' but then you have to increase the size of the cord to a 12 gauge cord.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Comparing the different Karcher models, I still have the same 2 basic questions.1) Does motor shut off with the trigger wand? and 2) where the water hose connects is it metal or plastic and is a kit needed to covert it to metal?
by Judy Averhart from Mississippi on March 27, 2011

A: Yes all Karcher electric models have the total stop feature when you release the trigger gun. Some of the Karcher models have brass water inlet fittings and some models have plastic. This specific model has plastic garden hose fittings and comes with a plastic quick connect attachment to prevent the user from cross threading the threads. To convert the fittings to plastic, you would have to purchase a brass garden hose quick connect kit.

I posted the product below that I am referring to:

Q: Do you have any self priming pressure washers for sale (gas or electric) ? I have wood deck on my 3/4 acre pond to clean & would like to be able to use the pond water. Thank you
by Mat from Virginia on March 27, 2011

A: Yes we carry 3 different brands with this feature. All Karcher, Kranzle, and Dirtkiller branded pressure washers (both gas and electric) have self priming pumps that have the capability of pulling water from a standing source such as a pond or tank.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Do you have any self priming pressure washers for sale (gas or electric) ? I have wood deck on my 1/2 acre pond to clean & would like to be able to use the pond water. Thankyou.
by John from Ohio on March 25, 2011

A: Yes, all Karcher branded pressure washers both the gas and electric versions have self priming pumps that can pull water from a standing source such as a tank or pond. We also sell Kranzle and DirtKiller brand pressure washers which too have self priming pumps. Kranzle and DirtKiller only offer professional grade pressure washers while Karcher offers residential and prosumer grade models.

I would definitely recommend that you use a filter on the end of the hose that is placed in the pond to prevent debris from entering the pump. Karcher makes a hose with filter for this purpose that we sell as an accessory.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: What happens when you use hot water in a Karcher electric power washer? I never knew they were (Electric-Cold Water) listed.
by Bob Mills from Michigan on March 25, 2011

A: Karcher's cold water pressure washers can accept water up to 104F degrees. This is common with all cold water pressure washers. Using water hotter than 104F degrees in a cold water pressure washer will definitely damage and wear away the seals in the pump, causing the pump to fail. This is the fastest way to damage a pump that is rated for "cold water".
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: Just bought the Karcher 3.74 from you guys. What is the "Pump Guard" which is recommended for storing and protecting the pump? And how do I use such?
by Preben Jensen from California on March 24, 2011

A: The Karcher pump guard is a chemical that is designed to extend the life of the pump and the seals within. Pump guard or pump saver as it is also called, will lubricate the seals in the pump and also prevent any water that is left inside the pump from freezing during the colder months.

To use this product, you simply attach it to your garden hose water inlet fitting and turn the machine on for a few seconds. Once the chemical exits the outlet high pressure fitting, the pump is protected.

You should defintely run this chemical through the pump every time you are going to store your pressure washer away for extended periods of time such as over 30 days. You should also run this chemical through the pump periodically throughout the year to keep the seals moist.

Great Pressure Washer With Many Features!
The Karcher X-Series 2000psi unit is a hard working electric pressure washer. The item was shipped in a well packaged box that came with easy instructions and was ready to go in about 10 minutes.

I plugged the unit in and accidentally hooked up the garden hose fitting backwards, so I quickly turned it around and it's worked great ever since.

I show in my video how I clean my enclosed cargo trailer, picnic, table, kids toys, and more.

Great Machine - Suction System Sucks Sometimes
Southern California Drought set me looking for PW system that would utilize my harvested rainwater. Karcher was the only system that boasted this feature.

X series machine looks well made and easy to service.

System works as advertised except for the suction hose accessory. (The whole reason I purchase this unit in the first place.) Priming the unit using the system's suction is a nightmare unless you learn the following tricks.

1. Prime by raising water source above the PW. (Simple... more

A Great Pressure Washer
This Karcher model is awesome. It's adjustable gun does a great job of dispensing detergents and as you begin to turn up the pressure the suds start to work hard to clean whatever you are working on. The dirt blaster takes care of stubborn grime. The motor is quieter than any previous Pressure Washers I've owned before and with the water cooled motor I'm sure it will last a long time.

What is especially nice on this unit is the hose reel. You turn a crank and wind up the hose right on the... more

Not Worth The Money
I purchased this machine in October of 2012. I have used it 3 times since then. It started to leak from the bottom of the machine the third time it was used. So now I am looking to have the leak repaired so I can use the machine. I called Karcher to find an authorized dealer which I then contacted. The authorized repair dealer recommended NOT having this fixed. It would cost more than buying a new machine. I am so disappointed.

I would never buy another Karcher product for this reason. ... more

Doreen,
Repairing small electric appliances is no longer cost-effective, which is why Karcher has their Rapid Exchange Program for their electric pressure washers. If your machine is still under warranty Karcher will replace it with a similar or better model.

Since your unit has only been used 3 times in 4 years I would hope it was stored with Karcher's Pump Guard in it, per the Owner's Manual. This product keeps the seals from drying out and keeps the pump parts lubricated when it's not in use. If the seals dry out and crack the pump will leak and no longer function.

We appreciate your business, and sympathize with your disappointment.

Doreen,
We at Karcher thank you for the feedback. Though your unit is 2.5 years past warranty, we are replacing it with a new one for you.

Products are built to be used, not abused nor sitting for long periods of time which can cause some of the seals to dry out and leak. It's the same as an automobile which should not sit for long periods of time but should be driven on occasion.

Waiting For Some Good
I put it together after receiving it and it doesn't work properly. It goes between high and low pressure like its having a seizure. Very disappointing, then I go back on your site to check out the product again to find it has been discontinued a week after I ordered it.

Luckily Karcher had a rapid exchange program and they are sending me a new one since it had a warranty. I have not received the new one yet. I am praying it works.

Shannon,
I understand that seeing the big, red Discontinued status can be disconcerting, but please be aware that Karcher updates their models regularly. Once we sell through the ones we have in the warehouse we tag that model as Discontinued and start selling the new one. Just because it has changed status doesn't mean it's not a good machine; it's just not the current model any more.

Karcher's Factory Warranty is good throughout their entire warranty period. If they didn't have the exact model you needed replaced they would ship you a better one at no additional charge.

The issue you describe could also be a case of the pump not getting enough water to work properly. Please make sure your garden hose is at least 5/8" in diameter, and your garden hose not longer than 100 feet. You also need to make sure you're on city water that will deliver at least 2 gallons per minute (how to determine that is on page 5 of your Owner's Manual).

We appreciate your business, and apologize for any inconvenience.

An Excellent Pressure Washer
I purchased the Karcher K5.740 2000 PSI pressure washer last year and intentionally waited to write this review because in the past I have had gas powered pressure washers that worked great the first year and then broke down the second year.

I used this one all last spring, summer and fall for such things as cleaning the house, deck, bird baths, fence and a few other miscellaneous things. The 2000 psi pressure was more than adequate to clean off years of mildew buildup on the deck.

Not What I Thought
Hose real is nice but I was disappointed overall with it. Not being able to adjust it to a fine point is not good the other tip for it does a circle that I have found totally useless.

I am sure itís good for something I just canít figure out what. I have had many pressure washers and I would put this with a Harbour Freight $79. Range without the hose real & soap injection. Charles,
Page 11 in your Owner's Manual describes how the nozzles work, and what they are used for. There are 2 nozzles; one has an end that you can twist from right to left to set the spray width from narrow to wide. If you have it clicked all the way into the Soap position you will get a lower pressure spray.

The other is a turbo (or rotary) nozzle- the one that "does a circle". It has a strong pencil jet that spins to flush out dirt from nooks and crannies in hard surfaces. It's not recommended for siding, painted surfaces, or decks since may damage them.

To get the best performance from this unit you need to make sure it is getting enough water- you should have at least a 5/8" garden hose hooked up to city water (not a well).

If you feel your pressure washer isn't performing properly, please give the folks at Karcher a call, toll free at (800) 537-4129. Please have the serial number of your unit handy when you call them. This unit is part of their Rapid Exchange Program- they will send you a replacement unit.

Bought a Karcher Electric K5.65 from a big box store in Canada about 3 years ago. My brother bought a similar unit. We both used it two times each and it started leaking from below.

Out of warranty now so took it apart. In both, the plastic control pressure head cracked.Too expensive to fix. I'll put both in the garbage. Never more Karcher!

Compton,
The main cause of this leak we've found to be storing the unit someplace where it will freeze, and not using Karcher's Pump Guard product over the winter.

Following the instructions in the Owner's Manual about winterizing your pressure washer is the best way to extend it's service life in colder climates.
