Q: Hey Mike, I'm looking at this Karcher "X" series 2000 psi electric P.W. and want to know if it has high pressure soap injection. I have a 3000 psi Honda and the soap injection is low pressure injected which makes for a poor car wash cleaner.. Thank you sir..

by Don from Missouri on May 19, 2014

A: No this unit has to be set to low pressure just like most other washers. The low pressure is what allows the suction tube to create a vacuum and draw detergents. With that being said, they do make a foamer for this unit that is perfect for washing cars. It will attach to the end of the wand and dispense a thick foam. I have attached a link for you to view that item.

Q: Can any of the Karcher series be use for jetting drains? If not, can you recommend a "best" make and model.
by Ken from California on February 13, 2014

A: These will not be able to perform exactly as a jetter will because it does not have a pulsating pump. The trigger gun will allow you to create a pulsation with the drain cleaner hose attachment I have provided a link to. This will use the bayonet fitting and attach into your spray gun.

Q: Can you tell me the Karcher K5.740`s box size(length, width, height) and weight?
I must send it to South Korea.

by Son on August 10, 2012

A: The dimensions for the packaging of model K5.740 are 24" L x 15 1/2" W x 16" H. The shipping weight of the package is 39 lbs.

by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Will The Karcher K5.740 accept universal nozzles? I have a "turbo" one that connected to my now "dead" gas power washer via a 1/4" QD socket. Will Karcher K5 accept after market nozzles or just the wands that come with it? Thanks.
by Mike on July 24, 2012

A: No, unfortunately the Karcher electric models will not accept nozzles that use a 1/4" quick connect plug. The Karcher K5.740 will only accept the Karcher brand wands and attachments due to the unique bayonet style fittings that are used.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: I have a red cedar siding home and also many decks and porches that need to be done, We are looking at electric because we need to store it in our basement, Could you recomend the best washer for our jobs, We have never done this before ourselves.
by Cindy from New York on July 02, 2012

A: The Karcher X-Series is a good choice; their water-cooled motor is less prone to overheating than other electric models.

Please remember to break large tasks into smaller segments, especially with the record high temperatures around the country- you and your pressure washer will appreciate it.

Cedar is a soft wood; pressure washer spray is strong enough to gouge or raise the grain if you hold the sprayer too close to the wood.

Use a wide spray, stand back and test in an inconspicuous spot until you get the hang of it. Our article How To Revitalize Your Deck has some good tips, especially if you're using a deck cleaning detergent.

Q: does this unit shut off when you release the trigger?
by Juan on April 02, 2012

A: Yes, this machine does have the total start/stop feature when you press and/or release the trigger.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: is KARCHER K5 700T300 SAME LIKE THIS ONE?
by ALLY on October 05, 2011

A: Yes it is the same machine but the K5 700 is the european version. I do not believe you can purchase this model in the U.S. Also, the 300 part of that model number means that the T300 surface cleaner is included with this pressure washer.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Hello, Is Karcher X Series 2000 PSI (Electric-Cold Water) Pressure Washer model 240 V. and also can You tell international shipping price to Armenia Yerevan
by Davit on October 01, 2011

A: No, the Karcher X series model runs off of 120 voltage.

Unfortunately we do not ship any products outside of the U.S. at all so I am unable to quote you a shipping cost.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Can the pressure be turned lower than 2000 PSI for applications that need lower pressure?

Are there any recommendations from keeping the PW from tipping forward as easily as the reviews indicate?

Do accesseries have a shipping charge?

by Janet Cowan from Minnesota on August 26, 2011

A: No, this model does not have an adjustable pressure regulator to lower the psi output. This unit does come wth an adjustable spray wand though that you can rotate to lower the psi output. The lowest you can adjust the wand down to is about 1600 psi. By doing this, you will also decrease the fan spray pattern width.

Q: Where can I get a copy of the Karcher Model K2093 Manual ?

A: I am posting a link below to where you can download a copy of the owner's manual for all Karcher models.

Q: Hi. I was looking at the Karcher pressure washers and noticed two models that seem to fit the bill... the k5.740 and the k5.540. What's the difference between the two? From the specs, they appear to be identical.
by John Dunn from Connecticut on July 28, 2011

A: These 2 machines are exactly the same except for the housing on the K5.740 is more rugged and heavy duty. The K5.540 is strictly designed for consumer usage. The pump and motor are exactly the same on these 2 models.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Some of the Karcher pressure washers are for industrial use?.... Ihave a car wash and I would like one of continuous use.
by MR. VALDEZ from California on June 17, 2011

A: If you are looking for a model for continuous use. You would want to be looking at Shark, this would be the commercial line of Karcher. Something like a CB-402007B would be better for what you are looking to do.

Thanks,

Q: Do electric pressure washers require any routine pump maintenance.
by Rex Hagen from Illinois on June 07, 2011

A: No, these are going to be maintenance free pumps. We do suggest you use a product called pump saver with this upon storage for the season. This helps keep the seels lubricated and winterizes the pump.

Q: I have a Karcher K5.740
The garden hose connector cracked and I cannot find the rreplacement piece
Its actually the water inlet with connector that needs replaced
Where can I find this part?

by Steven Drexler from Pennsylvania on April 30, 2011

A: If you are referring to the quick connect adapter that comes with this unit, you can always purchase a metal garden hose quick connect kit that would be more durable. Unfortunately we do not carry the exact replacement adapter from Karcher.

If you are referring to the actual threaded water inlet that is attached to the machine, unfortunately we do not carry that type of part for this model pressure washer. If that is the part you are referring to, please visit www.pressureparts.com . They will more than likely have what you are looking for but there is a chance that part cannot be replaced.

If the garden hose quick connect adapter is what needs to be replaced, I am posting a link below to a product that would be compatible.

Q: this is probably a stupid question, can you guys ship to Australia?. Our dollar is good at the moment.

Sorry, I wish I could help you out.

Q: I just purchased a Karcher K5.740. I can't seem to verify if this model has an upstream or downstream detergent injector. Would anyone happen to know?
by Daren from Tennessee on April 17, 2011

A: This model uses a detergent tank for the chemical injection. This would not be considered an upstream injection. The type of injection this model uses is more of a downstream injection because it pulls detergent through a siphon hose from the tank. However, a true downstream would apply the detergent at the end of the spray wand and would allow you to use any chemical you wanted. You can only spray detergent at low pressure with this model which is also why this injection is not considered upstream. However, I would still recommend that you only use pressure washer safe detergent such as Karcher's soap packs.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Can an extension cord be used or is it limited to the 25 foot power cord it comes with? How will this unit work for cleaning of a ski boat?
by Jeff from Idaho on April 04, 2011

A: Using an extension cord is not recommended with electric pressure washers. However, if the situation requires you to do so, you can use a 25' cord as long as it is an outdoor rated 14 gauge cord. You may increase the extension cord length up to 50' but then you have to increase the size of the cord to a 12 gauge cord.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Comparing the different Karcher models, I still have the same 2 basic questions.1) Does motor shut off with the trigger wand? and 2) where the water hose connects is it metal or plastic and is a kit needed to covert it to metal?
by Judy Averhart from Mississippi on March 27, 2011

A: Yes all Karcher electric models have the total stop feature when you release the trigger gun. Some of the Karcher models have brass water inlet fittings and some models have plastic. This specific model has plastic garden hose fittings and comes with a plastic quick connect attachment to prevent the user from cross threading the threads. To convert the fittings to plastic, you would have to purchase a brass garden hose quick connect kit.

I posted the product below that I am referring to:

Q: Do you have any self priming pressure washers for sale (gas or electric) ? I have wood deck on my 3/4 acre pond to clean & would like to be able to use the pond water. Thank you
by Mat from Virginia on March 27, 2011

A: Yes we carry 3 different brands with this feature. All Karcher, Kranzle, and Dirtkiller branded pressure washers (both gas and electric) have self priming pumps that have the capability of pulling water from a standing source such as a pond or tank.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Do you have any self priming pressure washers for sale (gas or electric) ? I have wood deck on my 1/2 acre pond to clean & would like to be able to use the pond water. Thankyou.
by John from Ohio on March 25, 2011

A: Yes, all Karcher branded pressure washers both the gas and electric versions have self priming pumps that can pull water from a standing source such as a tank or pond. We also sell Kranzle and DirtKiller brand pressure washers which too have self priming pumps. Kranzle and DirtKiller only offer professional grade pressure washers while Karcher offers residential and prosumer grade models.

I would definitely recommend that you use a filter on the end of the hose that is placed in the pond to prevent debris from entering the pump. Karcher makes a hose with filter for this purpose that we sell as an accessory.
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: What happens when you use hot water in a Karcher electric power washer? I never knew they were (Electric-Cold Water) listed.
by Bob Mills from Michigan on March 25, 2011

A: Karcher's cold water pressure washers can accept water up to 104F degrees. This is common with all cold water pressure washers. Using water hotter than 104F degrees in a cold water pressure washer will definitely damage and wear away the seals in the pump, causing the pump to fail. This is the fastest way to damage a pump that is rated for "cold water".
by Mike, Product Expert
Q: Just bought the Karcher 3.74 from you guys. What is the "Pump Guard" which is recommended for storing and protecting the pump? And how do I use such?
by Preben Jensen from California on March 24, 2011

A: The Karcher pump guard is a chemical that is designed to extend the life of the pump and the seals within. Pump guard or pump saver as it is also called, will lubricate the seals in the pump and also prevent any water that is left inside the pump from freezing during the colder months.

To use this product, you simply attach it to your garden hose water inlet fitting and turn the machine on for a few seconds. Once the chemical exits the outlet high pressure fitting, the pump is protected.

You should defintely run this chemical through the pump every time you are going to store your pressure washer away for extended periods of time such as over 30 days. You should also run this chemical through the pump periodically throughout the year to keep the seals moist.

Heat build-up is the enemy of electric pressure washers, so Karcher has developed a water cooled motor that runs quieter and lasts longer than previous models.

They've also introduced a pump that uses corrosion resistant polymer in a swash plate instead of their usual axial cam, so it will out perform and last longer than earlier models.

A hose reel that can be used while the unit is running (instead of just for storage) and a Dirtblaster turbo nozzle round out a complete cleaning package... more

Great Pressure Washer With Many Features!
The Karcher X-Series 2000psi unit is a hard working electric pressure washer. The item was shipped in a well packaged box that came with easy instructions and was ready to go in about 10 minutes.

I plugged the unit in and accidentally hooked up the garden hose fitting backwards, so I quickly turned it around and it's worked great ever since.

I show in my video how I clean my enclosed cargo trailer, picnic, table, kids toys, and more.
Pros: Easy To Use, Quiet, Features, Fast
Cons: Plastic Hose Connector

Same Failure, Twice!
I bought one of these from this website and it worked great, for a while. Then out of no where it started making a surging sound when not being used and water was leaking from the bottom. I started the warranty process and it went very smooth. Since Karcher didn't ask for the old unit I took it apart and found some molded plastic had developed a hole causing it to leak.

I received the second one and again it worked as expected and the warranty process was smooth as silk, but last week the... more

Good Washer, Bad Adaptor
On first use, adaptor for attaching garden broke. See photo. I love the washer, but go ahead & buy a good adaptor to go with it.

I was 45 minutes from the hardware store & wasted 1.5 hrs replacing the adaptor. Washer is nice- no stopping to refill the gas tank.

Good pressure & results.

Don't Waste Your Money !!!
Purchased this for my son,to wash his house and windows on 2nd floor as well as the recommended swivel hose connectors. He washes the house every year over the fourth of July weekend.

It does NOT build any pressure and LEAKS inside someplace where you can't see the leak. TOTAL JUNK. I expected MUCH better results from Karcher, as for I have a very old unit that works VERY well.

I refuse to believe that Karcher made this junk? Not sure what to do with it? TRASH,TRASH,TRASH!

Follow-up On My September 29, 2014 Review
In my previous review of the Kärcher K5.740 - September 29, 2014 - I noted that the original Kärcher K5.740, which I purchased from PWD, failed on second use (the China-made GFCI failed), and that the replacement unit obtained via the Kärcher RXP (Rapid Exchange Program) also failed on second use (again, the China-made GFCI failed), and that I was waiting for the next replacement Kärcher K5.740 via the Kärcher RXP.
So, the next Kärcher K5.740 arrived on October 6, 2014 - this is the second... more

Loved It Till It Leaked The Second Time
I had a cheep electric washer for three years till it died. So I decided to buy a top of the line one. Water cooled pump thought it would last for years. I just use it around the house wash cars clean the walkway. First year worked great. Then three weeks after the warranty it started leaking from the inside.

Called Pressure Washers Direct; they gave me shops I could take it to closest 30 miles away. Never got to use it that summer 6 month in the shop waiting for parts and cost half the... more

Greg,
This unit has a 1 year Factory Warranty through the folks at Karcher, so that expired in May of 2012. You may want to check with the shop that repaired the unit- many times they will warranty their work.

A pump leaking from the inside is usually caused by water remaining inside the pump and freezing over the winter. That's why we recommend following the Owner's Manual and use a Pump Saver product to store the unit, and make sure it is stored someplace where it won't freeze.

Cycling on and off can also be caused by not enough water reaching the pump. Using a hose that is smaller than the Owner's Manual recommended 5/8" diameter, or longer than 30 feet, or not getting enough water from a well or cistern can also cause flow problems.

Cheap Plastics Inside
The washer developed a major high pressure water leak when it was only 20 months old. It got only occasional use around the house and no abuse. I disassembled it to check the source of the leak and found way too many plastic parts inside.

It was out of warranty but fortunately my charge card company doubles the warranty period. Rather than let them repair it I will take a cash settlement and buy a good washer. Do not buy this washer if you want it to last more than 2 years.
Pros: Easy To Store, Quiet
Cons: Low Quality, Durability, Unreliable, Lasted Less Than 2 Years

Paul,
For those reading this review: Karcher developed their new Swash Plate Transfer System Pump to be lightweight & strong. The patented N-Cor polymer resists corrosion- so it is high-tech plastic, but it out-performs & lasts longer than previous metal pumps. Plus it's a quieter pump.

To get the longest life from your electric pressure washer, be sure to store it with a Pump Saver product (any brand), and don't store it where it will freeze. That will help prevent leaks so it is ready to start cleaning every Spring.

Glad I Bought It
I am glad I purchased this unit. I was a little hesitant based on some of the reviews concerning the plastic quick-disconnect for the hose connection, but after using this pressure washer all weekend to clean my driveway, house siding, patio, deck, and gutters I really enjoyed using it.

I'll tell you that you have to take some of the negative reviews with a grain of salt. Yes, Karcher (and all electric pressure washer companies) should include perhaps a brass or metal connection since you... more

E.,
For those reading this review: I checked our competitor this morning, and the K5.740 is still tagged as their #1 best seller. We also recommend this model because it has a proven track record of reliable performance at a good price.

Karcher is the largest manufacturer of pressure washers on the planet. We always recommend calling their customer service at (800) 537-4129 to start the warranty process so you don't get lost in their email system. Their Rapid Exchange Program gets a working pressure washer into your hands as quickly as possible.

We do not recommend sitting and doing nothing while the warranty period expires. If you bought the unit from us and you aren't getting the service you expect through the Factory Warranty, you are welcome to give us a call and we will be happy to help through our manufacturer contacts.

This is a GREAT power washer, you plug it in and hook up the water and add the cleaner and it is ready to work all day if you are. I had a gas powered washer and could never get it to run. I love this washer. I purchased the extra attachments and can wash the roof of my storage sheds without any problems.
