Q: I recently purchased a Generac 6596 and am extremely happy with the performance of this unit except I would like to add more length (25') to the pressure hose. It gets quite confusing when looking at the choices offered. Can you please offer your suggestion for a 25' extension hose for this unit?
by Mike Baird from Michigan on October 30, 2015

A: Thanks for your inquiry. I would recommend the MTM hose model 30.0130. This is a 25FT hose, just like the one you have. You would then need adapter model D10040 to attach the 2 hoses together. I have attached links for you to view those items.

Q: Had a 5 yr old Homelite(3100 psi) unit that went bad. The local small engine repair guy said gas power washers kept in garages and only used 1-2 time a year build up gunk in the carbs. If I buy the 6596. is there a storage method to avoid this?
by Tom Leibman from Texas on May 26, 2015

A: Yes, anytime you store a small engine it is recommended to put a fuel stabilizer in the tank to avoid build up and gumming in the carburetor. I have attached a link for you to view the product I am referring to.

Q: Mike, I am looking at the Generac One-Wash 3100 PSI and the Generac 2800 PSI. Is the main difference aside from the 2800 to the 3100 PSI that the One wash you can adjust the pressure or can you do that on the 2800?
by Chris from Connecticut on May 18, 2015

A: The 6598 and the 6602 are both 3100 PSI units with the 6602 having an adjuster on the pump for those newer to pressure washing.

The 6598 and the 6602 are both larger machines than the 6596.

Q: Hi Mike, I am interested in a pressure washer. I'll use it to clean my deck and ranch house probably once a year and occasionally clean my garden tractor with it. I like the 2800 psi generac that is on sale but I'm concerned about the cheaper units and their pumps. I believe this one has aluminum pistons which seem to me would be prone to corrosion. Should I buy something like this or save my money and go for something more than double the price? I do take good care of my stuff so, it will get rinsed out, etc...
by Joe White from Massachusetts on May 16, 2015

A: The Generac units are some of the best consumer grade units in the industry today. They use an AR brand axial cam pump with an aluminum head, but do tend to hold up for consumer use. I would not hesitate to recommend the Generac Unit.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: What is the minimum water pressure required for a Generac 6596
by Phil from Texas on May 14, 2015

A: Per the owners manual page 8 found under our specs tab.

Do Not siphon standing water for the water supply. Use Only cold water. Water supply must be adequate to handle greater than 3.8 gallons per minute and no less than 30 PSI.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: You mentioned using a Briggs turbo spray tip on the Generac model 6596 in order to have a "5 in 1" tip. which one would work for the 2800PSI The chart has 2500PSI and 3000PSI?
by Fred from West Virginia on November 07, 2014

A: You could use the 5 in 1 tip with your unit. The Briggs model 6197 would match up perfectly with the Generac 6598 model. However, the 5 in 1 tip has nothing to do with a turbo nozzle. The 5 in 1 tip connects to the end of the wand and replaces the colored spray tips. It allows you to adjust the spray fan without switching out the tip. A turbo nozzle would connect in the same place. It takes the pencil sharp high pressure spray, and rotates it at approximately 3600 RPM. This gives you a 5-7" high pressure cleaning swath, allowing you to complete jobs in 50% of the time than using the red tip.

Q: Mike, we have two old washers, but want to get one new one. Trying to decide between two at Lowes. Generac 2800psi or Troy built 2800psi Briggs & Stratton. Complaints In the reviews, the Troy had a small fuel tank and the hose connections were tight quarters. The Generac someone complained it didn't have a plate with the model or serial # so he couldn't find a parts listing on line. He may be right. The model # at Lowes is 6549 but it doesn't come up on Generacs web. I would like to get the Generac but I want to able to get parts too. Will that be a problem ?
Dave BEST OF THREE PARK- bestofthree.com

by DAVID E SPEELMAN from Ohio on July 27, 2014

A: I do not sell or specialize in parts here. Also, Lowes gets different products then dealers like my self. You should reach out to Generac with your concerns about Lowes products. If you are looking to purchase a model from us, we offer free shipping and no sales tax here at Pressurewashersdirect.com

Q: In what ways is the Briggs and stratton 2800psi washer better than the Generac 6596. I would like a washer that I could put extension rods on to wash my house. Are they both able to install rods on the handle? I just need a washer around my house to do little jobs but I would like it to last more than a couple years. Are both pumps the same quality? Thanks
by Craig Lapp from Pennsylvania on June 05, 2014

A: Here is the listing for 2800 PSI Pressure Washers. You can look at up to 4 pressure washers side by side by clicking the Compare boxes on the left side of the screen. That way you can easily decide which features appeal to you most.

Both units use M22 connectors, so a Telescoping Wand or Extension Wand will work.

The folks at Generac have put some of their units on sale for the next 9 days, so you can get more bang for your buck.

Since you're looking to keep the unit for a long time, you could also use the Service Locator to find out which brand has the easiest access to Factory Service in your area- in the long run that convenience could outweigh the small price difference.
by Brian, Product Expert

Q: What are the pump pistons made of?
by B Wheeler from Ohio on June 04, 2014

A: This unit comes with an axial cam pump. The pistons are made of metal (usually an aluminum alloy) for strength without excess weight.

You usually won't find ceramic or ceramic-coated pistons until you get into units with triplex plunger pumps.

I hope this helps- we appreciate your interest in Pressure Washers Direct!

Hoping For The Best
Received my Generac model 6596 30 min ago. I haven't even started it yet but I had to stop and write this review.

1) It came damaged. Like others have mentioned, I don't have a broken gas cap, I have a smashed gas tank. Seems it was dropped and the top of the gas tank is crushed about 3/8 of an inch. Good news, it doesn't look like it will affect the unit. The gas cap seals well and all seams look solid.

I immediately called Generac and they do not replace gas tanks. I was told to call a... more

David,
Thank you for providing us with your detailed review of the 2800 PSI residential grade pressure washer. We are sorry to learn of the damage incurred to your unit during its shipment. As you have already noted, these issues can be remedied by an independent authorized service provider, and by processing a freight claim through the assigned shipping company. Please note that the independent authorized service provider closest to you can be located online by using your local postal code for searching purposes via the following link: http://www.generac.com/dealer-locator?cid=frm-105-ab.
Also, as you have alluded, the unit features an oil capacity of 20 ounces (0.6 liters). The H on the dipstick is the high (full) mark. When adding oil, it should be added to the H marking. Please note that these units are tested at the factory, and there may be oil left in the crankcase. Always utilize the dipstick when adding oil to ensure that the unit is not overfilled.
During operation, when the oil level reaches the L mark, that means the oil level is low, and oil should be added. The oil capacity information, as well as other specifications for this unit, are located on the product's spec sheet. To locate a copy of this documentation online, search the model or serial number for the unit here: http://www.generac.com/service-support/product-support-lookup?cid=frm-105-ac.
Lastly, if you have any other product-related comments, questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722). We do apologize for any issues this unfortunate situation may have caused.

Very Happy With This Pressure Washer
This pressure washer has exceeded my expectations for home use. We've used it to wash our cars, vinyl siding, and deck - and have successfully cleaned all of them without using any detergent!

The unit is easy to start and easy to use. The nozzles included have so far covered everything application we've needed.

There is one main drawback: the unit is light, mostly plastic, and mounted on large wheels - this makes it easy to move, but it tends to "walk around" when the... more

Worked One Time Only
I called Generac service and they told me that I had to take it in to the repair shop which I did. I was called an told that it was fixed so I went to pick it up. When I got there the serviceman told me that he called Generac and they said they wouldn't cover it and claimed the powerwasher had been knocked over which never happened. I live alone and am the only one who handled the machine and I know it was never knocked over.

He also told me that they had 3 other Generac powerwashers... more

Lorene,
I understand how the repair person's comments must have upset you. Maybe I can help...

If the unit was tipped over during shipping (which isn't supposed to happen, but sometimes does) oil can leak and coat the air filter and spark plug, preventing the engine from starting. This would be considered shipping damage, and isn't covered by any brand's Factory Warranty. It must be reported very soon after the unit is delivered, or the shipping company won't accept the claim.

If it started once and ran perfectly, then wouldn't run again there are a couple things that could be wrong. The easiest is that the vent in the gas cap is blocked- the vapors back up, and the engine won't start. Taking the gas cap off for a couple minutes, then replacing it and trying to start the unit again can help.

You can also try squeezing the trigger and letting the water run for a bit before starting the engine. This drives all the air out of the pump and prevents vapor lock. (Air in the pump makes the engine very hard to turn over.)

Usually we can step in and help during the first 30 days you have the unit. We are past that time frame, but we'd still like to see if we can help. If you would please send us a copy of your invoice (I'll email our fax number to you directly) I will be happy to see what we can do.

We appreciate your business, and apologize for your disappointment and inconvenience.

A Great Power Washer At A Great Price
For the price this power washer model is simply fabulous. It started immediately and right out of the box.

Its performance in cleaning the hard to remove dirt encrusted on cement pavers was a breeze. The features were many and most impressive.

Great For The Money
Totally happy in every aspect, except that one should know that if the unit does not start on the first pull, it can create a lot of pressure in the engine/crank making it impossible to pull the starter cord (feels like the engine has seized up or something). Simply pulling the trigger on the wand will release any built up pressure allowing for an easy start.

This is noted in the owners guide, but was a bit obscure and I missed it. My bad, but for a while, I was thinking that the unit was... more

Good Product!!
I've pressure washed 2 metal shops, 2 decks, 2 porches, 1 side walk, and 4 sections of plastic docks at our lake property. The metal shops look brand new. The pressure washer did a great job on the metal. Our docks are a off white and they look brand new except where the water line had stained the plastic.

All in all I am very pleased with the 2800, I would question myself as to purchasing the 3100, if it would help me on the high pitches of the metal shops from ground level, without... more

Brad,
To reach a bit higher without spending a lot for a telescoping wand you might want to try this 2nd Story Soap & Rinse Nozzle Set. They snap right into the quick-connect fitting on your spray wand and throw the water a bit farther than standard nozzles.

You could add another 25 feet of extension high pressure hose without much of a drop in water power; just make sure it has M22 connectors to match your existing hose. Just click on this link to our High Pressure Hose page, click on View All, then click on the "Select Hose Connection" filter and choose M22 to see what we have available.

A quick reminder- extension hoses will have an adaptor to link 2 hoses together; a replacement hose will not have that adaptor- please make sure the hose you select says "Extension" or "Replacement/Extension" in the title.

Small Things That Were Aggrevating
The washer arrived very quickly. It was easy to assemble and started without any problems. However, the manual is rather poorly written. For example, it does not tell you how much oil should be put in the engine. I had to add-and-check several times, and ended up overfilling it. What would it take to write in the manual that for X model you need to add Y oz. of oil?

Particularly that the included bottle of oil has oz. marking on it. Another example, the pump has a black plastic rotating... more

Brand Rep
Mts,
Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are sorry to learn of the issues that you have experienced with your unit and associated documentation. To start, please note that your manual states the engine oil level for your unit should be checked prior to each use, or every 8 hours of operation. Considering this, we are unable to determine the exact amount of oil that will be required for each fill period. To check and refill the engine's oil appropriately, place the power washer on a level surface, clean the area around the oil fill, remove the oil fill cap and wipe the dipstick clean. Next, screw the dipstick into the unit's filler neck. Lastly, verify the proper oil level on the unit's dipstick, add the recommended engine oil as necessary, and replace the oil fill cap and hand-tighten.

Secondly, in regards to the black plastic rotating nipple you have described, where is this located? Based on your description, we are unable to determine which part you might be referring to exactly. To gain insight regarding this part, and to help us explore applicable options for providing a remedy for your hose-related issues, please contact us directly at 888-GENERAC (436-3722) with the serial number of your personal unit.

Generac 2800
Used the machine first time today. It started up on the first pull which was unexpected. It ran well and the accessories i.e. nozzle tips covered the gamut of what a home owner would use. I power washed my house and two decks in about 2/3 the time I did with the electric Power washer I had before. It gave up the ghost after about 15 years and I could not find another electric that wasn't all plastic so I opted for a gas one. The Generac offered the best quality vs price and I wasn't... more

Great Value In This Pressure Washer
I bought this PW mainly to clean and prep my stamped concrete patio for sealing. Bought this unit on sale and have yet to see it anywhere else even close to the price I paid.

Very easy to start and operate. Have now used it for several tasks and it never disappoints. So far so good - thanks!
