Q: Hi Mike, I have a Troy-Bilt power washer with 2550 psi @ 2.3 gpm and would like to know which BE Surface Cleaner would be best for me? I would like to have a 14 to 20 incher if possible. Or should I just spring for a more powerful washer?
Thanks for your help,
Fred

by FRED O'NEAL from Michigan on June 25, 2016

A: When choosing a surface cleaner you need to match both the water pressure (PSI) and the water volume (GPM). The 14" BE unit needs at least 1500 PSI to work, so you are fine there, and at 2.3 GPM you just squeak past the minimum 2 GPM needed.

The other BE units need 3.5 GPM and up to function properly.

Q: I have a fairly new cedar deck that I have cleaned with a brush about 3 times and then stained with Penofin stain.
I have not used my 3000 psi power washer because the deckm guy said I would damage the wood.
Can I use B Whirl away safely on my deck?
Thanks, Mike

by Mike Tobin from Oregon on May 26, 2015

A: You will still have to be careful not to damage the deck. This unit is great for any flat surface application. Also, it is 2 nozzles compared too 1, so the PSI will drop slightly. It is still recommended to test a small area to check for damage before tackling the job.

We like the BE surface cleaner for a couple of reasons.

First, this one works with most brands of pressure washers up to 4000 PSI so it has a better range in compatibility than the other small surface cleaners. It comes with a 1/4" quick connect adapter that will attach to any spray wand that normally uses the interchangeable quick connect type spray tips.

Secondly, it's designed for consumer gas-powered pressure washers. It's durable, yet affordable. Sure, it's not nearly as... more

Excellent Product For The Money
I purchased the BE 14” WHIRL-A-WAY Surface Cleaner in May 2016. I have used the product multiple times and now have about 20-25 hours of experience with it. I’m running it on a Simpson 3200 psi 2.5 gpm gas power washer. I’ve had zero problems with clogging, spin stopping, or cracking.

I’m extremely pleased with this attachment which is performing well especially considering its relative price point. This product seems to sit the high end of “consumer level” surface cleaner attachments... more

Clogged Immediately And Useless...
I took it out of the box, hooked it up and it clogged immediately. I unclogged it and and immediately clogged again. Repeat several times until I finally gave up. I want to return it and get my money back.
Cons: Unreliable, Just keeps clogging

Ian,
Our Post Sales team will be contacting you directly about the return.

Your results sound like you are pushing down on the surface cleaner- it should float over the surface. When you push down on the unit it jams crud into the nozzles. If you let it ride on the water jets over the surface the water pressure doesn't let dirt into the nozzle opening.

Removing the jets and back flushing them should get any remaining grit or debris out, then you could try again.

Does A Great Job When It Works
Was able to use it for a couple of days and it worked great. However it does clog easy and now it will not rotate. The tips are clear, water is coming out fine. and I even put oil in the top so the bar would spin. However, it does not spin at all now. I really want to return it.

Low Quality??
While I love the performance of this thing, I have to wonder about the quality and the manufacturer's (BE) support. I used this with my new pressure washer for about 2 hours. At the end, I had to use a hammer to get it off. I discovered that the quick connect nipple it comes with was defective. Either from use or as originally shipped, it had an extra ring of metal around it that prevented it from releasing properly.

Since the nipple simply screws into the Whirl a Way, I tried to get... more

Neighbor Moved Away, Had To Buy My Own!!
The BE Whirl-A-Way 14" model is a great value that does a super job of cleaning up concrete and decks. Don't let the plastic body fool you - this unit will stand up to daily use as my neighbors borrow it all the time!

While the unit is advertised for 3100 psi, my my neighbors who have lower end pressure washers also report that the unit works quite well for them also.

Great Product!

Works Pretty Good, But...
There's almost always a "but" isn't there? I've used mine for several hours now and though there is a small learning curve, I found it easy to use and effective. The grit that builds inside the housing is troublesome to rinse and get out of the brushes when I'm done for the day, and storing it so it doesn't fall and crack the housing requires some innovation due to its size and shape.

All that is relatively unimportant in light of the fact it does make outdoor concrete cleaning... more

It Eventually Worked Correctly
It works, but I agree with the previous reviewer that stated that the tips can get clogged very quickly. So, keep a compressor handy to blow out the nozzles and tube just in case. Once I did some maintenance on the unit and got used to using it, it finally got the job done. I used the Pressure Pro E4040HC pressure washer (4000psi @ 4gpm).

I used the unit for the first 15 minutes out the box and it stopped spinning, so that ended my day (too tired from other work to deal with it). The... more

Serious Design Flaw
Unless the pressure washer you are going to attach this to has a single nozzle size of 3 or less this tool will cause you nothing but grief. The 1.5 nozzles are too small to pass water borne particulate at constant rate without clogging and the force of the spray bar with no weighting to the body of it makes it impossible to control unless of course you are using it with a $79 no volume toy. 4000psi? Seriously? Any pressure washer with that kind of psi would launch this thing and when I called... more
Brian, the Pressure Washer Expert
Product Expert
Charles,
I will pass this on to BE. However, 1.5 orifice nozzles would be the correct size for your average consumer grade unit. Most consumer grade units are 3000 PSI and 3 GPM or less. This is what the unit was initially designed for. The 4000 PSI rating is referring to the spray bar on the unit. If you have 4000 PSI and 4 GPM, you may want to switch the nozzles to a 2.0 orifice.

What A Joy!!
I power wash my long concrete driveway every other year using the small interchangeable heads that come with the power washer and it gets the job done but it takes forever.

My nephew told me about the surface cleaners that were available and so I went on line and chose the Whirl-A-Way 14" among many others. I couldn't be happier!. It's very well made and I completed the job in about one fourth the time!

Addendum
My unit still works as per my previous post. But judging from what others have posted, if you're going to use one of the much higher pressure-rated washers, keep in mind that it may dislodge thread locker material used at the factory, and that may block the nozzles.

As noted before, I could probably use more power for mine in order to float the head better and improve cleaning. But now I'm cautious about upgrading my machine, given others' comments here. If one can get the nozzles off at... more
