Have Patience
I just got my Karcher K5. 740 today.... I also got the Siphon hose and a foam cannon...i got all these because I love to detail my family's cars, but although I have access to electricity, I don't have any access to water.... so after researching the things I bought... it was delivered... took me about 20 mins to assemble the Karcher.

Fit together nicely despite confusing diagrams...lol....So first i took a shot and placed the Siphon in a full tub.....nothing worked....but i had bought a 7... more

Don't Waste Your Money
I saw the video of the hose that was suppose to hook up to your power washer and allow you to suck up water from a barrel, pond, or lake. I tried it w/ an electric PW and a gas one and it didn't work w/ either.

It sucked water about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way up the tube and that was it. It is a total waste of money and the price of 39.99 is ridiculous for this piece of junk.

As we have explained in other reviews for this item, very few pressure washers have self-priming (they don't need the back-pressure of city water) pumps. Karcher and Kranzle are two brands with self-priming pumps that we carry. The Features explain that the suction hose won't work with other brands of pressure washers.

The water is fed to the pump by siphon action, so like any other siphon, filling the hose with water should help start the siphon since the pump is built to move water, not air.

In the video the pressure washer is below the level of the water- once the siphon has been established, gravity helps feed the water into the pump.

The hose has no ability to 'suck' water on its own- it's just a hose with a filter on the end. If you don't have a Karcher or Kranzle pressure washer, it won't work at all.

Does Not Work As Advertised
I bought a Karcher K3.540 Electric Pressure Washer from Amazon because it was advertised to be able to pull water from a lake or water barrel instead of using a hose attached to a water spigot. My objective was to be able to pressure wash my pontoon boat while docked in 36 feet of water, with no water spigot available. I even watched a video on the Karcher website of a man pressure washing his driveway using a rain barrel full of water as his water source.

Karcher pumps don't require the back-pressure from city water, so they can use water from a tank or pond- but there are limits based on the size of the pump and the location of the water.

In the video the pressure washer is below the level of the water- once the siphon has been established, gravity helps feed the water into the pump.

Pulling water uphill against gravity, like out of a lake and up onto the deck of a boat, is much more difficult. If you can put the unit on a dock if the lake is high, or tie it off close to the water level, the pump won't have to fight gravity as hard and you may find it works better.

Like any other siphon, filling the hose with water should help start the siphon since the pump is built to move water, not air.
